both are beautiful! you can finish the edges with half hexes and then bind you'll have a straight edge for binding.

How would you do this? I understand a facing but I can't grasp how a facing would help when it's a backing you're needing to attach to the little shapes. I think she would need to lay the batting down first then the backing down, face up.. next the quilt top...face down and stitch 1/4" from the edge of all the little pieces, then trimmed away the excess, would you be able to turn it out like a pillow case?

LOL, I've never made one obviously but that's where my mind takes me, right or wrong. Ha!
