I finished the main border today...now for the final border. The final border will take a little more planning, as it will eventually be sewn to the backing and I want to make sure I have enough fabric to make a nice seem. I am not going to bind it...I am going to finish it with its fun shape too =D Any comments on advice for finishing the final edge will be welcomed...

Incredible!

My grandmother did bind hers following the hexagon shapes. You can make a facing like you do in apparel sewing.

I so so love this, its so beautiful..........

Okay, cut four long pieces of fabric about four inches wide. Measure them so they match the outside four inches of the quilt. Now sew them together so they look like a picture frame, but are the size of the quilt, not bigger. Put the quilt and this facing right sides together. Stitch from the quilt side in a 1/4" seam, following the outline of the hexagons. Clip corners as needed, turn the facing to the back, press well, then handsew the loose edge of the facing to the back of the quilt, turning the edge under as you go.
Works best with table runners and wallhangings, but it could be used if you are determined not to bind the edge. |
Beautiful !!

Oh my goodness, that's so pretty!

both are beautiful! you can finish the edges with half hexes and then bind you'll have a straight edge for binding.
|

Wow! I love it and the colors! Looks like she does too!

Another option is to applique hexagons to a strip of matching fabric to create straight edge ; easier to bind this way
|
I am definately keeping the wonky edges...part of its charecter =D But great idea!!
|

|
