I whined on the board a few days ago about doing the fmq on this quilt. I have a sewing machine with only a 5 1/2" throat space and the quilt is almost a queen size...wore me out! Several board members gave me the encouragement that I needed to keep going. The picture is a bit dark. DH (who is 6'4") is holding it up for me and I tried to get a close up of the quilting. I do like it better than I thought I would. I guess I will chalk it up to being lots of practice for fmq. I gave it to my parents and they loved it. Just like you all told me that they would...they didn't even notice the fmq mistakes. Thanks for the encouragement.

Lucky parents! My own mother's favorite colors. You did a very fine job.

Wonderful! I think you did a spendid job! I have not yet tried FMQ.

k9dancer 02-14-2011 07:24 PM

If you gave it to me, I'd say, "Thank you very much. It's gorgeous."

You did great, once you are hooked there's no turning back. You'll be amazed that it gets easier every time. I'm trying to challenge myself to not do the same pattern twice. Practice new designs on paper it helps. Keep up the good work. Remember you did it from beginning to the end!!

Debbie, this quilt is beautiful & your FMQ looks great. Give yourself a big pat on the back, as I know you're tired. This is called a "labor of love" & it's Valentine's Day. Your parents will cherish the quilt because you made it.

You did a wonderful job! You should be very proud.

Debbie B 02-15-2011 06:15 AM

LeeAnn, Thank you for the compliment. I noticed your avatar. Was that hard to do? I was at an estate sale a few days ago. They called it a Quilter's Dream sale and it was...tons of fabrics, patterns, quilt tops & notions. The woman that died was a "Master Quilter" and her kids had displayed her many ribbons on the walls. I spent way too much money, but wish I could have gotten more. Anyway, I bought "Rock" the rooster pattern and also got the chicken wire fabric to go with it. All for $2! I have not done anything like this before. Just wondering if it's hard to put together.
