Going Small

4 Attachment(s)
I just finished this little wall hanging, which started as a project from Sally Collins' book, "Mastering Precision Piecing". Never did anything so small! I was pleasantly surprised how well the little blocks came out. I used straight-line and decorative stitches on my DSM to do the quilting. Hope you like it!

well done! Fair warning, doing small work like this changes how your quilting future will go :) A 12" block with 12 pieces suddenly seems WAY to boring :)

BrendaK 04-20-2015 11:02 AM

Beautiful. Love the quilting. Great job. BrendaK

Wonderful!!!! Looks like about 12 inches square? I have only done blocks as small as 1 inch nothing this small.

bearisgray 04-20-2015 11:10 AM

Nice - great fabric choices.

Yes. I can see this happening ! And the small ones are much easier to find a place for, both on a wall and in a storage box.

QuiltnNan 04-20-2015 11:24 AM

wow, so tiny!!! very nicely done!

lynnie 04-20-2015 11:35 AM

Just an amazing quilt, especially that teeny tiny pink border! I have her book and the sample quilts are really incredible.

Oh my, I didn't realize how tiny the pieces were until I got to the picture with the ruler. I love the colors you used. Very pretty!

JoyjoyMarie 04-20-2015 06:01 PM

That is a TINY one - and so cute!! I've been doing the QM Bitty blocks and having fun with them, but this is WAY SMALLER! Nice project.

i agree! took a class w sally years ago. small is now normal, normal is so strange to work on. i have that book also. sallys techniques are so simple & using them makes perfect little blocks. kudos, your quilt is gorgeous!

Macybaby 04-21-2015 06:23 AM

I love it too - but small can be addicting! It is so neat that you can't tell it's so small in the picture.

oksewglad 04-21-2015 06:41 AM

Fantastic...Such a wonderful choice of fabric, too. Many don't realise how time-consuming these can be.

I laugh at myself as I can make really small blocks, but to get a 12" block to measure 12 1/2" unfinished is a challenge..yes a whole new world, but it doesn't make a dent in my stash.......

JudyTheSewer 04-21-2015 08:22 AM

I have always admired Sally Collins. Your quilt is wonderful! You did such a super job.

NIICHMOM 04-21-2015 10:15 AM

I'm not one for decorative quilting, but I like yours...Thanks for sharing

justflyingin 04-21-2015 11:23 AM

A very busy little wall hanging

Trapunta 04-22-2015 03:03 AM

Fabulous detailed work. Super accurate. And beautiful too!

jetayre 04-22-2015 03:15 AM

Absolutely scrumptious! I don't think I could ever do that small but maybe some day.

lovelyl 04-22-2015 04:22 AM

Beautiful!

wendiq 04-22-2015 07:01 AM

HUGE exercise for a very SMALL piece....Love your fabric which incorporates so many colors. It is very sharp! And as has been said, you will not be able to do a 12" or larger block again......LOL!

mjhaess 04-22-2015 07:04 AM

That is very striking.....

PenniF 04-22-2015 10:09 AM

Oh wow....great job. That is really some precise quilting !!!!!

fatsewcat 04-22-2015 11:24 AM

Absolutely amazing! Doing mini's is something I really want to do someday. I just love the challenge behind them.
