A good start on Hunters Star

Thank you to all who added to the discussion on the Hunters Star. I've admired the pattern for awhile. Through reading everyone's input, I decided to order the Deb Turners ruler from Amazon. I love PP but in this case went with a ruler. I have 20 blocks, 10" and plan on 100. I got to say I'm enjoying these blocks. Love the ruler. My sister made the Jenny Doan pattern. But this pattern is more of a true Hunters Star. I'll post a picture when I get it done.

Pretty Hunter's Star!

Bluelady 10-31-2016 06:26 PM

Very nice to hear the ruler is working for you. I have been considering it, as otherwise, a hunter star quilt would be way too much paper peicing!

osewme 10-31-2016 06:30 PM

I've always liked the Hunter's Star too. I love the colors you are using.

This is going to be beautiful!

Good decision to get the Deb Tucker ruler instead of paper piecing. Your colors are gorgeous!

Bjbaxter 10-31-2016 08:07 PM

Very nice colors, it's on my bucket list.

jmoore 11-01-2016 03:02 AM

Gail, it's going to be awesome from the looks of your fabrics. Can't wait to see it finished. Have fun!

Beautiful colors. ( You've probably noticed by now that the upper right block needs to be rotated... but just in case...) Can't wait to see it finished!

twinkie 11-01-2016 03:58 AM

I love the work you are doing. Do those squares equal 10" or is each square 10". It is beautiful.

donna873 11-01-2016 04:08 AM

Very nice Hunter's Star-a favorite with most of us, for sure. I really like your color combination and will look forward to seeing your quilt when it is finished.

Good job and I love Deb Tuckers rulers and videos - she's the ruler queen!

Karen G 11-01-2016 05:23 AM

I love that ruler! I made a wall hanging and have a bed sized quilt on my list.

tessagin 11-01-2016 05:31 AM

I did the Hunter's Star the method Jenny Doan used. Only did one block. Then I had been at the lqs yesterday and saw 2 side by side they had on display. The Jenny method and the Deb Tucker ruler method. I ordered the ruler as an early Christmas present to myself.

Snooze2978 11-01-2016 06:47 AM

I'm glad to hear you are using Deb Tucker's ruler as I have them also and want to try them out. Love your colors too. I'm looking into using all greens for a couple I know down in Florida. She said she didn't care what pattern I used just as long as it was green. Guess that means green is her favorite color?????

Will be watching this thread.

Beautiful colors!!!
I, too, have the Deb Tucker ruler but have not yet made the Hunters Star quilt.
I'm very excited to see your finished quilt!!

feline fanatic 11-01-2016 07:02 AM

I love the color palette you chose for this. It is going to be one gorgeous HS quilt.

Jane Quilter 11-01-2016 07:03 AM

aaah, but what shade of green?

Quilter 53 11-01-2016 07:15 AM

Now I know!!! There's a local furniture store that advertises on TV and the spokes-lady is wrapped up in a quilt that looks just like this. Now I know what the pattern is. LOL

SooBDo 11-01-2016 07:20 AM

Hi Quilter 53 from Seward! When I read your post I thought, she's GOT to be from up here!

suern3 11-01-2016 01:33 PM

Very nice! Love your colors. You just helped me decide how to use my LQS 30% off coupon. I've been thinking about doing a Hunter's Star quilt and it sounds like the Deb Tucker ruler is the method to use. Hopefully, they will have one of the rulers next time I go in.

red-warrior 11-01-2016 02:26 PM

How big is your quilt going to be? I hate doing the math on these and want to make a king size quilt and have no idea how much material I need , any one here on this board able to help.

QM 11-01-2016 08:42 PM

You have made fine choices on this.

lass 11-02-2016 02:48 AM

I used the ruler too and it came out really well.

momsbusy 11-02-2016 05:18 AM

I made my first one a few years ago using the Accuquilt die. I loved it and plan to make more. Your colors are beautiful.
