Goodwill wall hanging

3 Attachment(s)
Finished my wool on cotton wall hanging. Most of the wool is from Goodwill or thrift shops. FMQing is not the greatest. I'm still practicing.

Thanks for looking!

Excellent! Wish I could work in wool.

quilt addict 12-06-2013 11:26 AM

Beautiful quilt! I have question about the wool from goodwill. I assume you are buying wool clothing to use for the applique. Do you do any treatment or felting to it? Do you just wash it alot and dry on high or do you also need to use the needle felting tool?

Thanks,
Lisa

Beautifully done. You managed to get a very nice assortment of wools from your goodwill. This turned out wonderful and bet you have a lot of wool left over to make another or even a nice sofa quilt.

I just wash the wool garments in hot water and then dry on high, and then I cut them all apart. Finding wool in the bright colors can be harder but it is out there. The green swag border in my quilt was from a childhood blanket that my husband's family had. The darker Kelly greens are hard to find. And wool goes a long way! One wool coat from a thrift shop will last you your whole quilting career!

Mariposa 12-07-2013 06:31 AM

It's gorgeous! Beautiful work!

nabobw 12-07-2013 06:47 AM

luvstoquilt 12-07-2013 09:14 PM

That is wonderful! I know you will love having that for years to come. I have been stocking up on wool from the thrift shops lately...isn't it fun to work with?

EvelynJ 12-07-2013 09:26 PM

Bravo! It is beautiful. I am so allergic to wool just seeing the word makes me itch but it is so amazing that I want to reach out and touch your creation.

DJ 12-07-2013 09:58 PM

Very special! And I love your quilting!

Such a lovely quilt. It is sure to be enjoyed. Wool lends itself to a warm and rich feeling that cannot be achieved with cotton. It is just a different expression. Goodwill and other thrift stores are great places to shop for wool.
