annieshane 06-10-2010 08:27 PM

This is pretty enough to frame and hang in a very special place. Haven't had nerve to try PP yet. Any suggestions for beginners?

JoAnnGC 06-10-2010 08:42 PM

mjsylvstr 06-11-2010 03:30 AM

I was thinking of framing it since it is only 8"square......

with your suggestion maybe I will definitely do that.

Thanks, just needed another opinion on it.

Deb G 06-11-2010 07:12 AM

trupeach1 06-11-2010 03:32 PM

mj that is beautiful!!!!!!!!!!! i don't know how you were able to work with such small pieces, i would never have the patients to do that.

craftybear 06-11-2010 06:05 PM

JEM65 06-11-2010 06:46 PM

Beautiful.

amorerm 06-12-2010 07:40 AM

Follow the outline of the flower around to the end of block. Would probably space it atleast one inch apart because of the pieces.

WOW!! love this block.

tadpoles_62 06-12-2010 08:14 AM

OMG it is gorgeous you are so talented ,i don't have enough nerve to pp yet maybe someday , don't think i'll ever be that good.

Beautiful!

polly13 06-12-2010 10:28 AM

PP is ADDICTIVE! That is absolutely beautiful. Outline the flower. Something simple in a circular pattern in the blue to offset the many straight lines. Just gorgeous!

SewExtremeSeams 06-12-2010 10:48 AM

WoW! Very nice work and I really like the colors.

I really can't think of what would add to your piece.

What about SID just around the outside of the flower petals and the leaves just to give it a quilted look but not to distract from the beauty you have already created?

:D

978gray 06-12-2010 10:50 AM

I love it!! I'm still working on simple pp projects.

wraez 06-12-2010 11:15 AM

Oh my, look at all those pieces!

warm quilt hugs, sue in CA

Dkm 06-12-2010 11:49 AM

No suggestions....just envy. PP and I don't get along.

Boston1954 06-12-2010 11:58 AM

That is terrific! What a wonderful job. Are you sure you don't want to make more and have it be a lap quilt?

amma 06-12-2010 12:07 PM

Ooooo Ooooo Ooooo that is absolutely gorgeous!!! :D:D:D

Sewaddicted 06-12-2010 02:05 PM

Annz 06-12-2010 04:03 PM

This is a beautiful piece and I belive any way you stitich it would only enhanse it's beauty.

Dani 06-12-2010 05:06 PM

I think quilting in ditch around the flower, leaves, stamens, as suggested earlier, and then do a diagonal grid in the background both ways about 1/2" apart. The centerpiece would really stand out! Really beautiful art quilt. Do you mind sharing where you got the pattern. Thanks! Dani

not at all....It it the Rocky Mountain Columbine, state flower of Colorado.

I ordered it from http://www.silverliningsoriginals.com/

They have beautiful patterns, not only of flowers but birds and animals.

Kara 06-12-2010 05:35 PM

That is captivating!!
So pretty!!!

Diagonals sound great. Think it would draw the attention right to the center.
Can't wait to see it finished.

annette1952 06-12-2010 06:47 PM

Beautiful job on the flower block. Looks so real. I don't know about the quilting but someone else will have the answer for that

Dani 06-12-2010 07:18 PM

Oh, I know Silverlinings. They have wonderful PP patterns. I haven't done any, but I have printed lots of their free patterns.

Thank you for sharing that! Dani

I really enjoy PP and find the decision about quilting the most difficult too. Your work is exceptional!

Lyn4ty 06-13-2010 07:46 AM

Great job you did on that fabulous flower!! Thanks for the link too, it gave me a pattern I was looking for - an elephant!! looking to design a quilt for my DGS and he loves elephants! I agree with the echo quilting on this, would make it pop even more. Please let us see a finished picture when you have quilted it and framed it.

gramquilter2 06-13-2010 03:54 PM

Wow this piece is fantastic, love the colors. You did a great job on this PP.

Clueless Quilter 06-13-2010 04:01 PM

I love paper piecing and flowers. Your block is just beautiful!!

ibeesewin 06-13-2010 06:23 PM

This is beautiful....I LOVE it!!!
I am a huge fan of paper piecing.
I think line coming out from the flower would look good. Kind of like rays of sunshine.

.......it is a small, 8"square (small hanging) so it won't need too much.

I would love to be able to machine quilt but it just isn't one of my talents !!!!!!!!

How would diagonal stitching from the flower out to all edges look?

Any suggestions gladly accepted. Thanks.........mj

OH wow MJ that is amazing I have done a little bit of PP but that looks so hard I know I would mess that up. You did a great job.
