This is Olivia's first quilt. She is 6 and a half. She picked the fabrics from my stash and arranged them herself. Then she sat on my lap and guided the fabric through the machine while I worked the foot pedal. I had her help me tape the backing to the floor and showed her how to use the safety pins to baste it. We zigzagged "in the ditch" sort of because I knew it would be fast and she could do the guiding herself. She also helped me sew on the binding. Not very straight in the back, but, she is quite proud of herself and I am proud of her too.

Thanks everyone. She has an artistic eye and loves to do crafts and she has done some really nice work. Last year I made her a design board with many pieces of fabric and she likes to cut shapes and arrange them. The problem is, she lives in Washington State and I live in Louisiana. I do visit as much as possible. She has two brothers, one older, one younger, and I do enjoy them too.

It looks perfect to me!!

I say get them hooked young. My daughter told me (she is 18) the other day not many of her friends know how to sew and she was so proud I taught her basics over Christmas break. I think (I am in my 40's) not many of my own friends do it and if we don't teach them.. who will? an entire generation and future generation with fewer and fewer woman (and men) who would even consider the art. How sad! Your little one is so precious and I hope you show her her picture on the web and everyones kudos for her. SHE DID GREAT!
