This latest finish is a quilt top I bought from eBay years ago and quilted it... years ago. I never put the binding on until last week so it's a completed UFO. Yay! It's an older gfg but not vintage, I think. Perhaps the 80's.

Wonderful quilt! I always am happy when an older quilt gets finished.

sallie789 04-04-2016 05:57 PM

Beautiful! How did you quilt it? Looking for ideas if/when I get mine done!

This quilt was hand pieced and in keeping with that I went with the traditional hand quilting 1/4" inside each hexie all around. I just love that look. I will post another picture that shows the quilting better.

It's a beauty.

Maybe this pic shows the quilting better. Thanks for the great comments.

I like that quilting around each hexie takes pressure off of the seams in case they are not real strong. This top has great hand sewing but not whip stitched, which would be stronger I would think.

Beautiful.

If its from the '80s it is vintage. The rule is antiques are 100 yrs. or older but vintage is 25 yrs. So you have a beautiful, vintage, GFG in your collection.

JoyjoyMarie 04-05-2016 10:50 AM

Looks terrific - and I know how it feels to finish something that's been hanging around - WONDERFUL!

That's very pretty - great job.

just_the_scraps_m'am 04-06-2016 05:13 AM

pretty hexie from yesteryear -- looks like lots of [too much for me] handwork.....the yellow centers are what makes that such a classic...

carolynjo 04-06-2016 06:26 AM

I think it is old enough to be a vintage top. "They" say that anything, china, etc., is vintage after age 25.

tessagin 04-06-2016 06:37 AM

Beautiful!!

Luv Quilts and Cats 04-06-2016 07:34 AM

What a beauty! GFG has been on my bucket list forever. Yours looks doable. Please tell me how big the hexies are, how many there are and the dimensions of your quilt. You have inspired me! Thanks for posting it.

Karen Mc 04-06-2016 04:58 PM

Sure!! The quilt is 78" X 93". The hexies are point to point 2 3/8". It does look doable, I haven't mustered the courage to piece one yet but I want to. I have a UFO GFG that my aunt gave me that I hope to finish someday.

Thanks!

Well, I had it in my head that vintage was 40 yrs. old. I couldn't say where that number came from. Hard for me to wrap around my head that stuff from the eighties is now vintage. Thinking that's going to get worse. I do have some wedding gifts that are now vintage so it makes sense.

Grandma Peg 04-06-2016 08:43 PM

Very nice quilt and always nice to get a UFO completed.
