When my daughter showed a smidge of interest in quilting, I ran out and bought her a machine------lesson learned. It has been sitting around since she made one pair of pjs. Hopefully one day she will pick up an interest!

Jen has done some occasional sewing. She actually made a quilt (with our friend) before I did. I think the key for her has been to get projects she likes in any color that she likes. I try to gently prod her to be meticulous and sometimes that means offering to pick out her mis-guided seams for her.

Here's Jen's first quilt

Kathy N I can commiserate with you, my daughter lives in Florida. We only got to sew together once when she was out for a visit. But she benefits from my love of quilting, I keep her comfy with lots of quilts (more for mental comfort than physical warmth). She loved the process of making her table runner but is afraid to try it on her own, even though I sent her all the necessary tools.

That is nice. And a nice sewing room also.

How sweet! Enjoy your time together in that room full of great stuff!!!

How cool is that!

I'm so envious that your daughter likes to sew! When my daughter was little, I would hand smock outfits for her, and I thought for sure I'd have a sewing partner. But she has absolutely no interest in it at all, and since she's 20, I doubt she ever will :( . I love your sewing room, and I must say that everytime I see your picture, I think I'm looking at a younger, thinner picture of myself!

LOVE your sewing space. Did you say that this was your "living room"? Where is your living room located? I thought about converting my living room to my sewing room (since we hardly use the living room-we have a family room as well), but it's the first room you see when you walk in the front door. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, it's an Olisio iron. I really like it. When I go to classes I'm always afraid I'm going to burn down the building because I forget to stand the iron back up.

That's only half of my sewing studio! My daughter's table is behind her with a desk for my dh next to hers. My stuff is all to the left. I think others would call this room the formal living room.

How fun! I know my daughter would love to sew with me but she's always so busy with school and other activities. Sometimes she will just take a book, or her computer, and sit with me at the table where I sew. We're not sewing but at least we can enjoy each other's company.

This room is to the immediate left when you come in our front door. I have placed a folding screen in the doorway so my mess is not the first thing visitors see! We used to use it for the library and I sewed in the adjacent dining room. I quickly outgrew the dining room, though, so we switched the two rooms last summer.

Great time, quilt and room. Fabulous! I have 3 daughters myself and one of them took an interest in quilting (fleece blankets, etc) after she had married and moved away. Boy do I wish we were closer now.

That's some sewing room you have there! And the 'quality time'
you're spending with your daughter - priceless.
