I bought a quilt kit to make for my 16 year old daughter and she grabbed it and started cutting! We are having a lovely afternoon stitching together.

sew_lulu 07-02-2010 12:40 PM

That's wonderful you're sharing the love quilting with her!

Candace 07-02-2010 12:40 PM

I wish my (almost) 17 yr. old daughter was even remotely interested! Good for you.

ann clare 07-02-2010 12:42 PM

Enjoy your time together

Wonderful way to spend the day bonding. At 16 they could be arguing with us. I had 2 girls and that was more the norm at times

Kathy N 07-02-2010 12:51 PM

I am so jealous!!!! My daughter lives too far away to be able to enjoy a day like this!

amma 07-02-2010 12:54 PM

Awwww what great fun!!! I can't wait to see the quilt :D:D:D

Fiber Artist 07-02-2010 01:08 PM

Thats wonderful! My three girls don't sew much, but my oldest son loves to sew and quilt.

MinnieKat 07-02-2010 05:24 PM

What fun!

franie 07-02-2010 05:25 PM

Awesome. Is that an Olisio Iron I see there? Nice sewing room!

craftybear 07-02-2010 05:44 PM

annette1952 07-02-2010 05:59 PM

Yes, it's an Olisio iron. I really like it. When I go to classes I'm always afraid I'm going to burn down the building because I forget to stand the iron back up.

That's only half of my sewing studio! My daughter's table is behind her with a desk for my dh next to hers. My stuff is all to the left. I think others would call this room the formal living room.

Holey moley! I love your sewing room! Can I come and play? Mine is just half my family room and not near as many toys.

dkabasketlady 07-02-2010 06:32 PM

Fantastic sewing space & your DD does really nice work. I love her color combinations.

cwessel47 07-02-2010 06:37 PM

I'm thinking that orange and lime green must be a theme. The quilt matches the walls! Great progress. Enjoy the project together.

littlehud 07-02-2010 06:38 PM

What a wonderful way to spend a day. Neither of my daughters want to get near a sewing machine. Thank goodness my DGD has been bitten by the quilting bug. Isn't it fun to sew with them.

I am so jealous, would love to be able to do that with a daughter. We lost our daughter 18 years ago. We have a son who is married to a nice gal that likes to sew. We could probably quilt together but they live in Colorado. Enjoy your time together. She does nice work. Must be a very good teacher.
Love your sewing space. Such a nice place to create.

wvdek 07-02-2010 06:55 PM

Holey moley, you are blessed sewing with your daughter, great sewing room, yep, all the above.

CarrieAnne 07-02-2010 07:07 PM

Aw, that sounds like fun!

I'm so sorry for your loss, I truly cannot imagine.

Thank you for the reminder to enjoy every moment with our babies.

Honey, that's no studio- it looks like a quilt shop!!!! :D
What a nice way to spend time with your daughter. I have 3 boys but when they were little they all learned to sew. Loved the way machines worked. My oldest came over just a few weeks ago and we made nice dinner napkins that he wanted. He bought all the fabrics and they were gorgeous!! We had fun and it reminded me of when they were little guys :D

adrianlee 07-03-2010 07:28 AM

How super to spend time with your daughter. They grow up so fast and are out of the nest too soon it seems. Your sewing room looks great.

mom-6 07-03-2010 07:40 AM

What a blessing! When my daughter was that age she had very little interest. Did do a quilt in the one home ec class she took, but no more yet. However!!! This past weekend she got fabric to make a couple of halter tops so maybe the sewing bug is biting again....of course it could just be the fabric acquisition bug, which she got in full measure from me!

Pam 07-03-2010 09:02 AM

Nice space! I have a largish (for a bedroom) space and am thinking about moving the cutting table to the middle of the floor as well. Do you like it there and how do you keep it from becoming a "catch-all"?

It's so nice the two of you can do somthing together. My niece got a sewing machine a couple of Christmases ago and it has not made it out of the box. I have offered to take her to find fabric and patterns (she wants to make tops ouf of knit materials) and to sew with my friends when we get together, but so far, no luck. I hope soon that she will want to do it again. I would love to have her sew with my Mom, her grandmother. My Mom would be tickled pink, but my Mom is not one to do the asking.

I don't! I have to clear it off everytime I need the whole thing. I often find myself working on a small corner.

What a lovely way to spend an afternoon..... I love it when Emma shows an interest in sewing - she is only 9 but we have done a couple of small projects together... I just love the time shared. Also, what a fantastic sewing room. I love the way you have organised the threads on the walls!

hugs

Caroline

It's been an on-again, off-again thing with Jenni. Yesterday she said, "Sometimes I just love sewing and some days I can't stand it!" I think I 've hit my goal of not pushing her but letting her find her way. She spent 5 hours sewing yesterday!

shopaholic97 07-04-2010 05:08 AM

Great to see the younger ones quilting. What a great day you must have had

mimee4 07-04-2010 09:24 AM

RDM 07-04-2010 11:21 AM

How awesome that you can share your quilt passion with your daughter. I wish I had learned the joys of quilting at a younger age. Enjoy your time together making beautiful quilts. I love your studio-it looks well equiped and well organized.

Granny B 07-04-2010 11:50 AM

Have a wonderful 4th.

marghar50 07-04-2010 12:17 PM

You are so lucky, My daughter wasn't interested in sewing.
My Mom raised me to sew and loved it. My granddaughters 4 of them and 2 the 11 and 14 are sewing and love it. we have a great bonding time. My daughter just buys the fabric and gives me the list of what she wants. guess I am lucky I got 2 who are going to be quilters.
