Great idea doesn't work penguins in bathing suits

I got a great Amy Bradley pattern and thought I would pair the penguins in bathing suits with the winter penguin print fabric. ICK I will try a mock up with sashing just in case it works but...I am thinking some appliqued snowflakes on alternating blocks might work better. Got to find some appliqued snowflakes and give that a try.

rosalynd 10-18-2013 05:44 PM

I love the penguins with swimsuits!!

sewbizgirl 10-18-2013 06:34 PM

Great penguin appliques! How about some surfboard fabric to go with them instead? Then pair up the winter penguin fabric with the snowflakes....

lynnie 10-18-2013 06:41 PM

I love the bathing suits and sunglasses

Tartan 10-18-2013 06:46 PM

Cute penguins!

wordpaintervs 10-18-2013 06:58 PM

What an adorable penquin. Want to adopt a 73 year old gg-ma to give that too? (Laughing at my silly self) I love this posting. Made me smile, and need smiles today

Those bathing penguins are just the cutest.

moonwork42029 10-18-2013 07:09 PM

In the sashing you could put "Seasons Change" ... I love the combo because of the humor

Diane007 10-18-2013 07:14 PM

those are just too cute

Foxflower 10-18-2013 07:46 PM

I think its the theme difference that is throwing it off. I'd go with something summer (flip flops, surfboards, sunglasses, etc) with those adorable penguins! I agree applique snowflakes sound good with the winter penguin print.

Plumtree 10-19-2013 02:25 AM

I love your beach penguins!! They are totally ready to hit the surf scene :-)

I'm wondering if you could amend the pattern to make penguins, like the ones in swimsuits, except in winter clothes? They have such a fun attitude!

klgls 10-19-2013 04:40 AM

Adorable penguins - I would use a "summer feel" fabric with the appliqued penguins too. They are too cute!! Still smiling!

Gail B 10-19-2013 05:21 AM

What fun fabric. I agree the penguins would go great with surf boards or some other summery fabric.

nativetexan 10-19-2013 06:12 AM

Oh I see a reversible quilt in the making!!!

Kathy T. 10-19-2013 06:27 AM

I adore those penguins - I wouldn't change them for anything!

I agree!! Make the quilt reversible!

dunster 10-19-2013 06:45 AM

Those penguins are so cute! What about this combination is bothering you? I don't see a problem from the picture. Hopefully sashing will make you like it more, because I think it's adorable.

mighty 10-19-2013 06:49 AM

A reversible quilt would be really great!

RainydayQuilter 10-19-2013 07:53 AM

Maybe a large floral Hawaiian shirt type print, to compliment your surfer dudes? You're off to a great start.

grammysharon 10-19-2013 09:15 AM

I do too, but agree with surfing fabric as alternate block!!!!

Where did you get the pattern for the penguins? Love it, would love to make some!

Halo 10-19-2013 12:34 PM

I think a black sashing around the wonderful penquins blocks would set it off nicely.

twinkie 10-20-2013 02:52 AM

I think it is cute.

gabeway 10-20-2013 05:01 AM

Looking good.

2manyhobbies 10-20-2013 05:26 AM

The penguins in bathing suits should be the focal point they are so cute...maybe subtler blocks in between them?

cowgirlquilter 10-20-2013 05:55 AM

I think it is absolutely adorable!!!!!

carolynjo 10-20-2013 06:38 AM

I would put fusible on the back of the snowflakes and just fuse them onto the quilt top. Then, you can sew around the edges and not have to turn under and applique every little arm of the snowflake. Just a thought.

hudgoddess 10-20-2013 06:43 AM

I love the idea. Can you find snowy penguins that are the same size as your sunny penguins? That would be perfect!

BuzzinBumble 10-20-2013 06:59 AM

Your Penguins are super adorable - made me laugh! I agree - go with a more summery theme like Foxflower said.

I agree, but I absolutely LOVE your boy penguins in bathing suits. I think they need have some girl friends?

How about some snowflakes on a light blue background in either the darker blue color, like the skis/snowboards or even red snowflakes.

red-warrior 10-20-2013 07:47 AM

I love your summer penguins! I agree with a summer match it would be awesome!

Mariposa 10-20-2013 07:48 AM

Cute penguins! :)

pal 10-20-2013 07:49 AM

I'd alternate the penquins with solid black and EVERY ONE of the shorts fabrics - or any one of the shorts fabrics that you have enough of. What a happy, happy quilt! Think the striped fabric would be fabulous.

rosiewell 10-20-2013 09:47 AM

but the penguins are adorable!

madamekelly 10-20-2013 10:04 AM

Maybe a tropical print would be a better fit? Love the penguins by the way!

maxnme01 10-20-2013 11:14 AM

GREAT idea! Too cute.

How about pieced penguins. Here is a penguin I found on the web a few years ago. It's easy to piece because it's just a modified 9 patch.

lfstamper 10-20-2013 11:32 AM

I would try sashing first to see if you like that. The summer penguins are adorable!
