It turns out that a few of us on the Board have got this fabric to make a One Block Wonder quilt so we thought it would be fun to post our progress all together on one thread! The fabric is called Floral Master and is by Springs Creative Products. Gaigai sent me mine but I think it's from JoAnns if anyone else feels like getting some and joining in. Correct me if I'm wrong someone!
Anyway, for those who don't know, a One Block Wonder or OBW is a kind of kaleidcoscope quilt similar to stack n whack. There is a Topic List here on the board and a brief description about them with details of the books here http://www.quiltingboard.com/virtual_section_list.jsp I think we'll all be using the technique from the One Block Wonder books by Maxine Rosenthal. See my link above for more info. So far it's me, imjustme and NUTMEG10 who are taking part plus nena in a couple of weeks. I know another lady has the fabric and I'm waiting to hear from her. Meanwhile, here's a pic of the fabric and my first blocks. Looking forward to seeing pics here on this thread from the other ppl with this fabric. It will be interesting to see the differences as we go along! :-D Fabric, Floral Master, 12" repeat My first block - a promising start! My first 19 blocks from my first strip set - I have two more strip sets to assemble. |
Very good start. Looking forward to seeing the rest.

And here are mine. I will take more pics and add them when I get home.

Brilliant imjustme, your pics are much clearer than mine and show the fabric up better. Now I'm comparing hexes! I think I have one similar to your top right. Oh my, this will keep me amused for hours! LOL
EDIT my bottom right is similar to your top right! |

LOL- I can't wait to get home. I have a ton more done. They are all chain pieced still. I just kept the 2 halfs together chained so I wouldn't lose which 1/2 was for what. I could pin them lol didn't think about that til I saw yours.
|
I just saw that to lol was starring at yours while you were typing I guess.

Is this fabric current or an older pattern. I can't find it on their website at all.

I need a design wall, maybe I can work on that this weekend. I am so scared the kids are gonna mess with my pieces so I have them hidden lol
I chain them as well - first into the pairs then into the halves. When I press the halves, I then pin and put up on my 'design wall' (in fact it's just a pack of batting hung on the wall)! I use those little aspplique pins as they're really small and light so they stay put.
|
I've also looked for it online and can't find it. It sure is making some beautiful blocks. How big is the typical kaleidoscope block?
|
I got mine at Hancock fabrics.

PS Just heard from quiltstodo who also has this fabric and will be joining in after she's finished her current project. And thanks imjustme for the correction on the fabric supplier. Hancocks sell online as well don't they? Will check! :-D

For all those trying to get the fabric, I checked JoAnn's and Hobby Lobby online but no luck. I'm sorry! We seem to have picked a rare one!

You know, my design wall is just 2 flannel backed plastic tablecloths I got at the thrift store for 99 cents each. I use 3 clotheshangers with the clips to hold them up; 1 on each corner and 1 in the center where the 2 overlap. It works great and folds up easily out of the way when I don't need it. For smaller projects, I can just use 1 of the tablecloths. I put the hangers on the door frames now but plan to install 3 hooks in the wall near the ceiling to hang them from eventually. |
beautiful fabric and will follow along, thanks

great idea for a design wall
