Didja ever have a quilt that seemed to be working out beautifully and then it just goes kablooie on ya?

I joined a Guild back in March and they were working on a BOM - so I got caught up and got the last block finished the other day - then it comes time to put it together and I think gremlins showed up in my sewing room.

First of all, I like to hang my WIPs on the clothesline and take pictures and print them out - which is a good thing, because I did that with this yesterday and last night while looking at the picture I realized that one of the half-triangle blocks in the Jacob's ladder was turned wrong :!:
So had to rip that out and fix it -

Then it just doesn't seem as 'nice' as I want it to be... but it's as nice as it's going to get!

I'm going to take this 'out' to get it quilted - it's huge and I have no desire to fight with it (anymore)

This is a Religious themed BOM, with huge blocks (15") Some of mine wound up only 14.5 so I outlined each block and then trimmed to 16"... made it a whole lot easier to do the sashing...
I really like the star sashing - it's easy and looks really dramatic..

This is the "Journey" fabric from Hancock's...... so I said the quilt is for a "Spiritual Journey"

Love blues and browns.

I haven't seen that fabric at my Hancock's. It really looks nice, you'll probably like it better when it comes home quilted! As far as I can tell you did a good job, and it is very pretty.

Wow, this is beautiful, you are probably just looking at it for too long....when it comes back you will love it I am sure....if not, you know where you can post it to don't ya???????

Moonpi 06-10-2008 09:02 AM

Pretty. I like that sashing a lot.

reneebobby 06-10-2008 09:04 AM

very nice quilt

This is a beautiful quilt! I know how you feel, though. If a quilt starts to give you trouble, you're just not as fond of it as you might be. By the time it comes back from the quilter you will have forgotten the pain of "birthing" it, and I'm sure you'll love what the quilter does!

mgshaw 06-10-2008 11:06 AM

Very pretty and very clever how you adjusted the size

bj 06-10-2008 11:14 AM

I love the turquoise and brown. I'll bet when you get it back from the quilters, you'll find you love it.

thanks everybody...

the sashing was my idea - I just like the star sashing. The BOM booklet (copied pages in a notebook) didn't have any instructions at all on how to put it together - just said however you want.

These are the blocks and the Biblical references used - some names are unfamiliar for the blocks used:

Roman Stripes (rail fence), Acts 16:19-34

Jacob's Ladder, Gen 28

Jewel Box, Ex 35:20-29

Star, Mat 2:1-14

Bears Paw, 1 Sam 17:32-37

Sister's Choice, Luke 10:38-42

Cross and Crown, Mark 15:15-38

Rolling Stone, John 20

Heavenly Problems, Rev 12:7-9

Strength in Union, Heb 10:24-25

Road to Damascas, Acts 9:1-9

Temple Court, 2 Chron 1:1-9

Janeen - that is a wonderful quilt!!! I love the colors & each block is so unique. Your addition of the star sashing really sets the blocks off. GREAT JOB!!!

Janeen, that is beautiful work and the colors are striking! You've done a fine job! I like sashing too. I like your star sashing and will have to take your word for it being "easy" because I've never tried it, but would like to some time.

That is just, again, a beautiful quilt. It's striking and you can center the whole bedroom decor around that lovely quilt.

Thank you for the link in this thread too.
