Halloween Stack and Whack

4 Attachment(s)
Happy Halloween everyone! I love making stack and whack quilts, so easy and each block is a surprise. I scaled the pinwheel blocks down to 8 inches, the original stack and whack pattern in Bethany Reynolds first book makes a 15 inch block, but she has a chart on her website with different sized block cutting info. The alternating 4 patch block centers are leftover cuts from the pinwheel blocks. I've include a picture of the original fabric. I didn't buy it with a stack and whack in mind, I've had it for several years, probably paid $2 a yard for it on clearance. I sure do love the variety this print provided, it was scary good fun making this quilt!

What a great quilt! It's amazing to see the original fabric. Maybe if I saw it in person, I might have realized that was the fabric, but probably not. I am learning to look at fabric from a different perspective. My education continues.....

How beautiful!!! That's a whole lot of work for a seasonal quilt...kudos for you.

citruscountyquilter 10-27-2013 07:03 AM

I have a friend who makes stack and whack quilts and she always incorporates some of the original fabric into the quilt either in a border or as part of the backing so you can see what the fabric looked like before she created all the different pinwheels from it. I think this is a neat idea.

wendiq 10-27-2013 07:44 AM

What a clever use of fun fabric. You did such a nice job.

I love your work!! Could you be a little more specific for this "challenged" person for finding the directions for scaling down the pinwheel size. I've made the 15' block but would love to make some smaller. Thanks loads.

What a great Halloween quilt. I never would have thought of making a stack and wack, but it's very creative.
