Very pretty! It looks like you top stitched the hankies to a flannel square that you fringed?

bailey 07-14-2014 06:39 AM

Very pretty!

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 07-14-2014 06:45 AM

I love it! Please tell us more about how you created it.

tucsonquilter 07-14-2014 06:47 AM

So pretty!!! I would never have thought to put them together like that. Great idea!

QuiltnNan 07-14-2014 08:53 AM

very nice indeed

Sallybear 07-14-2014 09:07 AM

Lisa....all the hankies were not the same size.....so I sewed them to white flannel squares to create all the same size blocks... When it came time to do the snipping I didn't want to cut into the hankies!....& used pink polka dot flannel on the back ...creating sandwich blocks & then sewed all together.....like a rag quilt is done! This was my 3rd rag quilt.....I did a denim one made out of squares.....& a horizontal Halloween rag quilt! Learned my lesson on the Halloween one...pieced all my fabric together ....like a normal quilt & then tried to put it together! WRONG! Had to rip it all out & start over! Always do your research first!!!

I love love love it! It so reminds me of my grandma and my childhood. I carried one of her hanky's for something old when I got married. Well done.

First, Love it and going to imitate! Second, a little tutorial in the Tute Forum would be great. (Hint Hint). Third, how long are your fringe/rag cuts? Fourth, finished size? Thank you for sharing. This is also a great way to use up a stack of different colored bandanas for a male version of the quilt. You have been inspirational.

Lilrain 07-15-2014 10:15 AM

What a wonderful idea! It is so delicate looking with the hankies.

Yardbird 07-15-2014 02:16 PM

BETTY62 07-15-2014 05:52 PM

Thank you for sharing the picture of your awesome quilt as well as your notes for making it. I have a lot of my Mom's and Grandmother's handkerchiefs from their pre-kleenex days and and was wondering what I could do with them. You solved my problem. By the way, my Mom turned 100 this past January and the handkerchiefs are from her early childhood days.

Leslie333 07-15-2014 05:58 PM

Rag Quilt

Your quilt is beautiful!!! Wish I could find old handkerchiefs to do the same.

Caswews 07-16-2014 05:35 AM

What a novel idea ! Thanks for sharing !!

WisWis 07-16-2014 05:44 AM

Very feminine quilt.

gump51 07-16-2014 06:10 AM

I love your quilt! Like everyone has said, it's feminine, soft, beautiful and reminiscent of years gone by. Ah the bucket list!

The design with hankies in a center block made me think of doing the same thing with t-shirts and making a t-shirt rag. The logos on shirts that you would use are never the same size but by sewing them on a larger square, it would make everything the same. Your quilt has opened many doors! Thank you!

fangman 07-16-2014 06:52 AM

Great idea.

nena 07-16-2014 07:00 AM

Lovely quilt. Great idea. I have a ton of hankies and wasn't sure what to do with them. Thanks for posting.
