Hanging Batting - How my son did it.

I have been reorganizing my quilting and sewing supplies and let me tell you, this is harder and more time consuming than moving. 1. empty room 2. paint room 3. build shelves, etc. 4. hang batting 5. empty closet 6. start moving fabric ... 1 re-sort and refold fabric 2. cull fabrics and donate ... 1. start moving fabric again 2. decide how to sort 3. spend hours (days) moving fabric. Of course, I also had to empty two closets in the den so that I could move the stuff out of the sewing room closet, whiich meant that I had to clean the utility room and move that stuff in. See what I mean. It is never ending. I haven't done any quilting for weeks!
Anyway, Tinker requested a photo of how my son hung the batting from the ceiling. Nothing eleborate, hooks, and rope that is all, but I can pull it down to the length that I want to cut it, mark it and then cut. Should be so much easier. |
you have a very smart son! What a great idea! Out of your way but also at your fingertips.

Cool idea!
great idea! i'll have to remember that for when i move to my new house
WOW! Can I borrow him for a little while? Maybe he could help me with my sewing room too!
I know what you mean about never ending! I started my Spring cleaning about 4 weeks ago and it is stll rolling along. Once I free up an area, there is more stuff that needs to be organized and moved. oh my I am tired! I want to get back to my quilting projects so bad! haha! |
I thought it was just me. Had no energy after a road trip with my 90 year old mother. Rested up while dreading the work. Finally kicked myself where it counts and got busy. Did some work in sewing room, but it wasn't as bad as the rest of the house. then there was the yard work that had to be done. got my planting done yesterday, Mopping and laundry today, and I am going to sew today if it kills me. and I love the hanging batting. What a great idea.

I'm one of those people who need to 'figure things out'. Did you put the nylon rope through the center of the batting, or is it through a tube of some sort that the batting is wound around?
What a great idea! |
Great idea!!!
That is such a nice idea.
Thinking of you and hoping you and yours are safe in this tornado.
That s an awesome idea. I buy batting by the roll too and this will cure a storage dilema. Thanks for sharing
Very clever!! WOW
Great idea! Thanks for sharing. I'm not good at creating and love other people's ideas :-)
Really great organization!
Great idea!
Did you use another rod slipped through the tube the batting is rolled on? Your son had a great idea and I am going to use it as I also buy batting by the roll.
Thanks, Polly9 I have about 2ft. above my sliding door and a foot to the left of it. I am putting a 72" tape to measure the length of the batting. that is if I ever get done! Lately, I seem to change direction!(too often) and not get alot done. Thanks again Tinker
It is very easy this way and becomes easier if you use pullys and some plastic tubing!

what a clever idea! I hope you're doing alright after all the tornados up there, been thinking about you, my prayers are with all there in OK.
This is how I hang my batting, but I have it in the cellar, I use a wooden dowel for the center. I love it and its easy to measure and cut my batting pieces.

Its great to be able to get that great big bolt off the floor, isn't it? I had the same problem once till I finally came up with a similar idea as your son. I used a very large diameter dowel road, added an eye bolt to both ends and to the rafters above as I'm in the basement with open rafters. Took a couple of clasps like you use to keep your keys together (or I do) and slipped it thru the eye bolt on the dowel rod. This way I can take it off and on easily. Has worked for me and my floor is cleared. Isn't it great when we can come up with ideas that cost us little to nothing but what we have around the house to make it work?
I get some great ideas from those on this site. Thank you. Suz in Iowa |
Now THAT is a workroom !!! Love the idea.
Great idea! So nice to figure out ways to make life easier!
You are going to be so jazzed and so well organized when it is all finished that creating new quilts will be more fun than ever! Love your son's idea and also Suz's way of doing it too. Sure beats how I just shove it all under our bed.
Great idea.
WOW, that's a great idea, but I think you need some more fabric. LOL
Great idea.
Great idea..Pat your son on the back....
My DSIL put up brackets on my sewing room wall, I used the bar holder for a closet and a large dowel. It works so well, and I am not stumbling over a roll of batting in the closet. My hero

Great idea. What a smart son you have
How interesting and an easy idea:) Best of luck to you getting your sewing room organized!
Nothing like having a well-organized sewing room - maybe one day I'll find out that for myself! :)
Very nice idea !
wow, that is a clever storage method.
Very clever - available, but out of the way.
I sure like that idea but don't know if my husband will go for it.
Thanks everyone. I am almost done! Also thanks for your thoughts and prayers. My family and I are safe and well. Tree fell on bed of the pickup but it still runs and is over 13 yrs old. Fallen trees on curb for pickup. Daughter still without power but enjoy having her stay with me.

super great idea, I bet many of us will copy
I see how it comes from the ceiling but what about the middle is there something like a wooden dowel in there?????????????
