This one was one of the most difficult ones I've made. I abandoned it for awhile--teaching made me too brain dead to enjoy/handle it in the evenings--and went to ragged flannels for months. But, then I knew I needed to finish it, especially after all the time and money spent on the fabric!

When I picked it up from the quilters--I noticed mistakes! Ugh! Some of the 4 patch squares are turned. Good grief! How does that happen when I triple check? Sigh--it adds character, right? Oh well, my quilter wanted to buy it and was relieved to hear it was a keeper. :D

Beautiful!! I love this quilt. :)

Well done, and keep those pictures coming. :)

refibered 11-22-2007 07:47 AM

Definitely a keeper. Beautiful quilt!

jacquemoe 11-22-2007 07:47 AM

That looks like an awful lot of work. VERY WELL DONE. What size is it?I thought I was the only one that was never satisfied that I've never done an entire quilt "perfectly". I suppose only we know what's not perfect about them.

Diamonds 11-22-2007 09:25 AM

I think it is beautiful...

annmarie 11-22-2007 10:03 AM

WOW - that is lovely - looks like LOTS of work went into it.

ShellyQ 11-22-2007 02:15 PM

Blue Bell 11-22-2007 05:46 PM

Hi, I was sitting looking at TV this afternoon and wondering what I wanted to post as my picture. Decided that the house in a center of a log cabin quilt would be a good quilt to show. But you are using it already for your posting picture. Isn't that a great quilt.

Minda 11-22-2007 06:26 PM

It's a gorgeous quilt.

barnbum 11-22-2007 07:40 PM

jacquemoe, it's about 90 x 90--whew! That's the second biggest I've made. One log cabin was 105 by 105.

Loretta, it's called "Garden Lane" and it's by Patch Works studio.

Blue Bell--I think you mean jacquemoe's gorgeous avatar--I've been drooling over it. :D

And you all are absolutely right--it was A LOT of work!! :!:

When I got the whole body done--without the border. I told my 17 year old daughter I was thinking about just leaving that sucker OFF--no one would ever know. But, she was in a silly mood and said "Mom! It's called 'Garden Lane' and there are little people going to be walking on it and if the border is not there--they will all fall off!" Then she added "If you call yourself a professional quilter--you must add the border!"

I added the border--no simple task--it extended the pattern. Good grief.

Celeste 11-22-2007 10:18 PM

This is gorgeous! So I'm not the only one who finds post finishing problems after all?

kathy 11-23-2007 04:04 AM

I've been admiring your avatar, glad to see "the big picture". Even with the small mistakes, I know how satisfying it is to finish something that tried to whip you! Good job and congratulations on your victory!

Denise 11-24-2007 09:06 AM

Beautiful, keep up the great work.

susan s. 11-24-2007 09:34 AM

I can't see a single mistake. I think you'd have to take a magnifying glass and examine ea. sq. It's georous!

Chele 11-24-2007 10:44 AM

Your quilts are SPECTACULAR! I have really enjoyed seeing them. Make more!

I just yesterday put this one on my bed to see how it'll look and check the size. I love it!!! It matches beautifully!! (Well, that was the plan from the start!) The log cabin one is underneath. But--now I'll have a chance to change the scene now and then.

My husband just doesn't appreciate this like he should. :D

sewmuch 11-25-2007 09:59 AM

All I can say is WOW!! Your quilts are all great, and I love those little
minis too. :D

chatty cathy 11-25-2007 10:37 AM

Jerrie 11-25-2007 03:27 PM

you do such wonderful work

live2teach 11-25-2007 03:35 PM

That is magnificent! Absolutely gorgeous! I can imagine all of the hard work that you put into it. It is definitely a keeper. I laughed when I read what your daughter said...she's keeping you inspired to finish it. LOL!

jbsstrawberry 11-26-2007 12:20 PM

Absolutely beautiful!! You do beautiful work!!

Chunkymama 11-26-2007 03:29 PM

 I'm soooooooooo shamed of myself :? You talk about seeing the mistakes and sush things. I must be going blind because I don't see it also I'd give my eye teeth to have done that. I'm fairly new to this stuff and when I see all the things you ladies do I'm - well lets put it this way, I've done one king , queen 2 laps 6 minis of auction and large wall hanging. Some times I feel like I should just give up. Then again I think how mush fun it is and I'm off again. One of these days I'd like to be like shadowdancer and do a bargello :)

Knot Sew 11-26-2007 03:44 PM

beautiful quilt, you do really nice work........and that avitar has changed to a very diginified kitty........i like it

barnbum 11-26-2007 04:29 PM

My avatar is a kitty???

The mistakes are in placement of fabrics--no big deal. Just frustrating when all is said and done and I triple check!! But... no one would notice if I didn't point it out.

chunkymama (oh my your forum name gives me the giggles) you keep on quilting!! Everyone has a starting place. Everyone gets their own degree of joy from handling the fabrics. I thought through once about WHY quilting brings me so much joy--and I decided it's because I get to choose everything, from the pattern, the colors, when I work on it, who I give it to...what color it's quilted in and the design of the quilting (my quilter friend has endless options!!) So--focus on the joy--and where you are--and keep going. :D

Have you read "The Quilt Maker's Gift?" Oh my goodness--read that and be inspired.

Chunkymama 11-27-2007 08:24 AM

:D Thank you Barnbum < I needed that. I see things like the work ya'll do and I feel like I'm never going to get anywhere near that kinda work, :( , but I'm going to keep on if I bust giving it a try

Lori 12-17-2007 05:13 PM

Beautiful quilt! I bet that took a long time. I have one stashed away in a closet that I don't want to finish...maybe one day.
I didn't see the mistakes either. Almost everytime I make a quilt I tell myself that I am going to be very careful. I usually end up cutting something too small and having to go buy more fabric!
Keep 'em coming.
God Bless!
Lori

newquiltertoni 12-18-2007 04:54 PM

This is a very nice quilt! I could only hope to someday be able to make one just as nice!

fish 12-18-2007 07:29 PM

I love this quilt pattern. I looked on Quilter's Cache for the pattern you said was "Garden Path". Do you know whose pattern it is.
You are such a prolific quilter and a terrific person. I enjoy your pictures and your messages

DebJ 12-18-2007 08:12 PM

 Absolutely lovely quilt. I'd love to be able to do something that pretty. I certainly do not see any mistakes. Keep the postings coming.

Lori 12-18-2007 10:16 PM

The log cabin quilt is beautiful too. A quilt sure makes a room look cozy doesn't it!
God Bless!

Lori 12-18-2007 10:19 PM

I just wanted to say that I am fairly new at it too, and of the 10-12 quilts I have made, the largest was a twin size. I like the smaller projects that don't take as long. Also, it doesn't matter what size they are...it is the hobby that you enjoy and keeps you quilting. I'd like to see some of your quilts.
God Bless!
Lori

fabricluvr 12-19-2007 12:53 AM

wow! that is beautiful! isn't it funny how we feel the need to point out our mistakes? must be a 'quilter' thing. i did the same thing with my quilting neighbor the other day on one of my projects and she called me on it!

i just love that pattern. i was trying to figure out which is the main block. it is the star? or the square?

just beautiful! so glad you finished and posted it. oh, and i had to really look to notice the four patches in the middle, let alone see any that were turned the wrong way! :-)

Oh sorry fish--I just dig it out and its "Garden Lane" by Patch Works studio. I ordered in years ago online. I'd love to see it done in other colors.

Wow--thanks for all the kind words, everyone. You give me warm fuzzies. Mmmmmm. :D

barnbum 12-19-2007 02:34 AM

Oh YES--that's it fabricluvr :!: :!: :!: How did I miss your reply before I added mine?? But that is the same picture I'm looking at right now.

I have to say it took the longest time for me to find the right colors for this one--I searched for the one for the big square first. The trouble was I pictured something in my head, then didn't stop looking until I found it. Then, it was darned tricky to find the ones I wanted to match. Took weeks.

Dawn Hendrix 12-19-2007 04:34 AM

Nice job... time to start another!

ania755 12-19-2007 05:01 PM

It's the square--and the star--in one row, then the second row is a small part of it--a narrower row--the plain square with some flying geese and a four square beside it to help make it complete in the next row.

Does that make sense? I can see why you'd have trouble figuring it out. If it's making you crazy--I'll scan the picture of how it's put together here.... let me know.

Dawn--I'd have to be feeling VERY ambitious to try this one again. I'd never be able to decide on colors for a second one :!: :!: The barn one I'll start over break will be enough of a challenge for now. :-)

Celeste 12-19-2007 10:30 PM

what is the name of the pattern of the pine tree quilt you have hanging on the wall above your bed?

Chunkymama 12-20-2007 09:35 AM

MISTAKES, WHERE/ I must be going blind
