okay. I give up trying to decide this on my own. I change my mind every day and am unable to move forward! yikes.
I am making an on-point quilt for my mom using the sandy gervais pattern, Sticks & Stones. I can't make up my mind for the setting blocks - One is a dark brown tone-on-tone, with bits of black in it. The other is a richer, but busier, brown with non-metallic gold roses etched into it. Our camera is with my husband in the truck, so I had to use my cell phone - pictures are ok, but could not take distant shots so did a lay-out on my cutting table. Thanks so much for your help. this is a close-up of the two fabrics dark brown tonal different view layout with gold roses different view of roses |
Hm, they both show as purple on my monitor. Anyhow, I would use the one with the gold roses.
i love the one with the gold roses, BUT i think the blocks in the center are busy looking fabric, and the other one would look nicer. IMHO
I see them as purple too. I also like the extra visual interest the gold roses gives.
I like the gold roses one too, normally I would say go for the solid, since the center fabric is busy, but the solid seems kinda blah. Ditto the feline fanatic with the visual interest thing :-)
I vote for the one with the roses.
roses....definately!!!
Either one is fine but the rose one adds more interest.

I love the fabric with the gold roses, but the color is off, so it is hard to tell which works best. |
I'm odd. I like the tonal. The color fabric with the roses seems off on my monitor
Gold roses make your blocks really pop.
As much as I like the roses, I go for the tonal.
Roses, roses~!~~ :D
Love ALL your fabrics ~!~ |
The first picture looks purple but when you lay them with the blocks they look brown. I like the one with the gold. I think it really makes the quilt pop.
It will be beautiful whatever you choose. I am absolutely no help because I am afraid I would audition more fabrics. Is the dark color in your block brown?
I like the more solid piece. It makes the center blocks pop.
Roses!
I would use the first one you showed. For me, the second one seems to detract from the blocks in the quilt. Just my opinion - good luck!
I think I like the floral better. It pushes the white back and lets the other colors come through more.
I guess I'm an odd duck too.. I like the dark tonal, seems to bring out the other fabrics more.
I like the roses for the edge. What about the solid tonal for the center block??
I like the roses
I like the tone on tone best. Good luck!
The fabric I really like is the brown w/gold roses, but for the blocks you are using I would use the brown tone on tone since the center blocks are a busier fabric. Whatever you use both fabrics are very pretty.
To me the white is so stark and distracting, I think a green or even a black (is that black in the 'window' of the inner blocks) would work.
Both fabrics are nice but I lean toward the more solid one. It may look blah now but you could add some nice quilting to that border and it would really make it pop!!
From what i am seeing on my monitor, and I am not sure what the colors are...but the tonal fabric seems to go much better...the rses are too busy and there is something off about it. Like someone else said, you can quilt the tonal and make it look fantastic with a quilted pattern
I vote for the roses~
Beautiful - I think I like the dark brown better. The roses seem to clash with the rest of the material, to me.
Definitely the gold roses! Gorgeous!
I'd use the one with the gold roses. The other is way to dark I think and makes the white a really dominant force in color.
I would use the larger print fabric
I like the tonal. It conpliments the blocks.
I like the tonal better too. Don't know why either, but it shows purple on my monitor also.
I like the roses. VERY PRETTY quilt.
I also like the one with the gold in it, but the color on my screen is awful. The seem to match almost perfectly in pic 1, and in the ones where they are pieced, the colors seem different.
I like the fabric with the metallic gold. The other, while nice, looks too austere to me. Let us know what you decide..
Roses!!
