Help! First Quilt Ever! Conclusion.

5 Attachment(s)
Hey! At the start of January I posed a thread asking for advice on making a quilt. Here are the threads:

http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...r-t259214.html
and
http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...a-t259798.html

This evening I finished up my quilt and wanted to post pictures and let you know some of my thoughts on the whole experience.

Many people told me the One block wonder quilt would be too hard and that they had a OBW on their list but have been to intimidated to try it. My advice: GO DO IT. It's not that bad, and any imperfections are hidden by the busy quilt anyway. Its a super fun quilt to make and I really recommend it.

It took me about 40 hours to make, but that does not include time spend looking up techniques or watching tutorials.

Overall it was a great experience and I am glad I learned how to quilt. I will definitely do more in the future.

Anyways, here is my quilt. Thanks for all the support.

Cheers.

Beautiful. Looks like things in outer space. I love it. I feel that when you went for it you nailed it. Love the way it's quilted. BrendaK

You did a wonderful job on this quilt, from the piecing to the quilting itself. I think you are a born natural at quilting.

Knitette 02-04-2015 01:12 AM

It turned out great - good job!

Gannyrosie 02-04-2015 03:00 AM

Well this may be your 1st, but I'm sure not your last! So, you didn't just take up sewing? Right? It does look like outer space. Beautiful job.

IrishgalfromNJ 02-04-2015 03:14 AM

Love your quilt. It does have a starry look to it. Very cool. Love the quilting as well. You made a terrific quilt.

Great job all the way around. I'm a believer in doing something you like to get started with a new project. Just jump in there and you'll figure it out. That plan obviously worked for you!

QuiltnNan 02-04-2015 04:34 AM

a beautiful finish

Thank you for sharing. We all learn so much from each other on this site, and I appreciate that you've "given back". Especially since we got to see your beautiful quilt.:)

Wow, your first quilt. You are off to a wining start. Just beautiful. I love your color choices and the movement it gives your quilt. Nice job on the quilting also. It looks great. Look forward to seeing many more of your quilts.

Wow, what an amazing quilt for a beginner to tackle - well done

Quiltngolfer 02-04-2015 04:47 AM

That looks like an amazing quilt for a beginner. Nice work! I also made that quilt pattern for one of my first quilts. I took a class and had some help, but it turned out good.

Daylesewblessed 02-04-2015 04:58 AM

You are amazing and an inspiration!

Homemother 02-04-2015 05:09 AM

Your FIRST quilt is spectacular! I went back and looked at your previous threads and saw the original fabric and the quilt that was your inspiration. You have created a beautiful dazzling quilt! Good for you! I love your advice: go do it! So many things are not as hard as we think they are.

PaperPrincess 02-04-2015 05:26 AM

Love how it turned out!!!

DebraK 02-04-2015 05:27 AM

Kudos on the lovely finish!

Ariannaquilts 02-04-2015 06:41 AM

You definitely were up for the challenge, we don't try to discourage people just because but for some it scares them off or it's more difficult than they thought and don't want to ever do it again. Glad you knew your own capabilities and went for it I think you did an amazing job!

inspectorcmm 02-04-2015 06:42 AM

You follow patterns well! Great first job

Yes, it was also my first time sewing. I bought a Singer Talent 3321 off craigslist for $75 and that was that.

Thanks :) I did not feel discouraged by people here, I just wanted to encourage people with more experience than me who wanted to try at OBW who were too intimidated to try it, because if I can do it, anyone can.

Aszule 02-04-2015 08:02 AM

The quilting was pretty tough and it did not come out perfectly. A lot of the lines are not as straight as I would have liked, but I am not trying to be super picky our tough on myself, it was my first try after all. Also I am not incredibly in love with my binding.

Geri B 02-04-2015 08:34 AM

......and your next quilting personal challenge is..........

I think I am going to make another OBW for my bed. Using either this fabric: https://www.fabric.com/buy/209983/ti...FYM9aQodVLwASQ

or this fabric

2 separate directions I could head.

Also I plan on making a bargello quilt fairly soon.

Tweety2911 02-04-2015 08:59 AM

Beautiful! It looks like an grand explosion of fireworks! Congratulations on your first quilt!

WOA! What a fabulous beginning! Come join our quilting class in Broomfield. You'll love it.

Quilter 65 02-04-2015 09:50 AM

Beautiful and am glad you persevered in your thoughts. They are my favorites because each block is so different that it never resembles the original material. Amazing and congratulations on your first.

Pollytink 02-04-2015 09:53 AM

Beautiful and brave of you! I agree with the starry space look....love it!

Jingle 02-04-2015 11:35 AM

Beautiful, very stunning with the colors used.

Thanks that was definitely what I was going for This was the original fabric https://www.fabric.com/buy/0343750/s...d-29889bf8fb7b

I am going to make a label for the back that is embroidered to say "we are made of star stuff". It is a Carl Sagan quote.

Susann 02-04-2015 01:03 PM

Great job!!!

indigofab 02-04-2015 02:13 PM

Space. The final frontier. ;)
It's really wonderful.

I need to take your advice and not sit here and hum and ha over what I think would be too difficult.

That looks lovely and very cosmic.
