See when I see what the quilt will look like done, I think, in your sisters colors, it will be goreous. Sometimes we have to make things that are NOT our style , but I think it will turn out great.
I think its awsome very pritty!
it's a work of love for someone else. you don't have to love it yourself. i do know what you mean though. but she loves it!! so grit your teeth and get cutting.
You might feel differently about it when you can put a few blocks together to get the full effect. Other than that, just do a block every day or so. Think of it like you do washing dishes--it's a dirty job, but SOMEBODY'S got to do it!
I think the colors are fabulous! but also, understand not liking what you ae working on. Since it is for your sister I agree I would grin and bear it, it will be stunning when you are done. Please share when you are finished.
I have the same problem but find it easier to remind myself it's not "my" quilt when working on it. For what it's worth, the block you posted is beautiful in my opinion, but I can still understand your dilemma. Good luck getting through it.
Just grin and bear it. And keep thinking of the project you'll do once this one is finished. :)
I have made quilts that I absolutely hated during the piecing stage - sometimes I get all the way done and still hate it - but then I wash it and iron it and sometimes it comes around - I start to love it - the moral of the story is - I reserve judgement until I am completely finished - besides some one out there will love it.
BTW, I love the block you posted - and your sister loves it - just think how thrilled she will be when its done - then you will love it for her. Yah!!! |
The block and the colors are beautiful and it would make a gorgeous quilt. Just do it and know she will love it. I know its tough to work with fabric or colors you dont like but its what she wants.
It will be stunning. She will love it. They chose the pattern and fabric together. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!!
Your finished quilt will not look like the picture you sent...because your fabrics are gorgeous! Maybe make one block a day and like someone said, have a picture of your sister nearby to remind you of why you're making it. Before you know it, all your blocks will be finished and you'll be ready to put it together. Be sure to show us when you're done!
I know exactly what you mean. It's hard to work on something when you don't love the fabric (made one and gave it away) Can you do a few blocks at a time? Then work on something that you really love?
Even though it may not be pretty now, once all the blocks are together it'll be a show stopper I bet! |
I made a quilt for my sister that I didn't like. It came out OK. She loves it. You may be surprised in the end.
i have made tons of bow tucks for customers and have not always liked their pick of fabrics.. but it was not for me..i had to remember it was for them.
in the end... it was exactly what they wanted... i think its a pretty combo of colors... keep posting! |
Keep going. You may be surprised with the end result. Its for your sister and she likes it so I would finish it. I know it's hard to work on something you dont like but I think it will grow on you after you have made a few more blocks and put them together.
Sorry, but I agree with your sister!I like the colors and the pattern!I know it is hard to work on something you don't like though.Hopefully it will grow on you.
I'm not a big fan of batiks, however I think this will make a stunning quilt and your piecing is gorgeous. Just keep thinking that she loves it and you're doing it for her.
I like the idea of working on it in stages as someone else suggested. I agree it's hard to work on something you don't like so maybe you could alternate your sister's quilt with something you really like working on??
By the way your work is fantastic!!!!!!!! :D:D |
The quilt that you showed the picture of have very contrasting fabrics, while the ones you are working on have not much contrast at all. Have you considered a black sashing around each square to add some definition to each block? You may like it more as you see it shaping up.
You can do it! I'm not a big fan of batiks either and I had to do a project with pastels once, I REALLY dislike pastels, but I kept thinking, it's like going to the dentist, it will be over soon and then I can move on with my life. And your SIL is gonna love it!
I think it will be stunning and if its for your sister and makes her happy then it will b great!
I like the color combination. I hope that you will be able to finish it without too much "stress"
I think it's beautiful. There's not as much contrast as in the pattern, but I think it will work because of the beautiful batiks.
Could you use that as a center block and then do several marvelous borders around it? There are some beautiful border quilts out there. Maybe you could even choose a couple of fabrics that are more to your liking to add to it.
I actually like the fabrics. You may like the combination better if you are able to make the middle star more prominent, like out of the dark purple and then the dark purple on the outer edge of the block so that it stands out on both the middle star and the middle of the four corners of each block were the 4 meet. Good luck.
I'm doing a Day and Night quilt right now in blue and white. It looks complicated to do, but is really easy.
I agree with most everyone else here, it's for her and she likes the colors. Keep working on it and even if you don't like it in the end, it will be leaving your house! Please post more pictures as you make more blocks. |
not my choice for color but your workmanship is great, keep going, anything for a sister.
I think it is very pretty.
I absolutely love the colors!!! I love everything about it...Elainekay
I love the colors and think your block is gorgeous. I agree....remember who it's for and you're doing it out of Love!
If its for your sister , and she picked the fabrics then just keep telling yourself...its for her and u didnt pick the fabrics lol...but i like them.....and like the rest after its all put together it will be pretty..i have the book, and I know the gal that came up with this pattern, her and El took pictures together...good Luck!
Your block is beautiful. And while I possibly would not have chosen those colors, they work well together, and I would be anxious to see the finished product.
One thing quilting has taught me is that I should never past judgement on combinations, colors or patterns until I have seen the finished product. I am very frequently pleasantly surprised by the vision of others. Sometimes we must just take a leap of faith and proceed. Good luck and know your sister will love it. |
I love it and believe once the overall top is complete... it will come together beautifully. You are a brave and considerate person to have someone else pick out the pattern and fabric of their choice. From the beginning, they are invested in the project which will make it extra special to them!
Beautiful!!! I love the fabrics and the pattern. Your doing a wonderful job of matching seams too. I know she will treasure it. Try working on it for just a little while each day.

This is a beautiful pattern, and maybe after you have done a few more blocks and put it together, it may look okay to you. But the colors are pretty and I bet when you work on ir more the colors may grow on you. Like someone said earlier, do a block here and there while you work on something else that you like. And remember that your DS and DBIL love it.
Good luck and can't wait to see the finished project. |
You tell yourself it is not for you and they will love it! I would just do it quickly and get it out of my house.
I can't begin to count the number of posts here recently about recipients not appreciating their quilts. That being said: if the quilt is for your sister and she chose the pattern and the fabrics - make her the quilt she chose! It may not be your favorite thing to work on if these are not your colors - but apparently they are HERS. Finish it as she wants it - she will love it and be very appreciative of her quilt! OK - down off my soapbox.
Oh and btw - not that it matters - I love the fabrics and think your quilt will be beautiful!! |
Don't see a problem. It looks great to me.
the block is beautiful. I guess it's personal taste but I love the colors
