I actually love it too...Finish it and I bet you will come to love it
I love the colors and pattern...would not work in my room but if I have the right wall colors it would. Keep going...remember its what she like...color and pattern.
I really like it! Keep going!

I understand your dilemma as I have had clients choose combo's that I wonder about. On one wing my theory is the customer's always right. On the other it's hard for we quilter's to let the love flow into a creation which jars us.
Here's my solution. Make 4 of the blocks and show your sister the results with the blocks in a square. Then lay them out with a thin border of the fabric between them. Then lay them out alternating block and plain square of fabric. Then you can say that you wanted to give her the option of layouts. If she asks your opinion then you can admit to worrying about a "too busy" pattern and explain the options. Every one of my clients has been pleased to be included. Good luck. |
Maybe you can hire someone to make it for you??????????????
Good luck with this project. It's a very nice pattern and I like the fabrics they choose.
beautiful!!! what is the pattern and where can i find it? The batiks are gorgeous.
Work fast if you don't like them. LOL |
wow its awesome so pretty

I realize it may not be your choice of combined colors but your DS loves it and it is for her... I wouldn't mind the colors if they were broken up by a block of one of the solid colors from the prints in between. perhaps you could run this by you DS as an option....Good Luck :D |
I LOVE this block so far and can't wait to see more!! Remember it's not for you, but your sister and her hubby!
Love it.
from what i can see i like it !!!!!
I don't see anything wrong with it. I think it's beautiful and I love the colors. You could always send it to me....LOL
I LOVE IT! It will be a beautiful quilt. Maybe if you just keep telling yourself it is for your sister and she loves it - it might get easier to work with. You might even grow to like it after you do a few blocks. :-) Or do a set number of blocks a day and set it aside until the next day. You'd probably finish it before you realize it.

Marcia out how to put it into Quilt Pro and do what I was suggesting, but you did it exactly like what I was thinking. How would a gold in the place of the dark purple in the circles look? You know, kind of a yellow gold? It might stand out too much, but to me, it would pop even more. However, I love what you did. How on earth did you get the block straight enough in photoshop to put it into a quilt? I tried cropping and straightening the block, but couldn't get it straight enough. Have a Great Day! Marcia |
I am with your sister, love it. You might like it better when there are more blocks. Good luck.
For what it's worth, I like it too!
Better than this happening: my mom designed and picked out the fabrics for a bear paw quilt... I made it for her... then she decided she didn't like it, once it was done. I thought it was pretty, so I kept it for myself. Still not easy to stay cool-headed about that one!! |

Marcia, I put the original photo into photoshop and then I "skewed" it until it was perfectly square. Then it was just copy and paste.
I'm not sure about gold, I was just working within the parameters of the fabric she's already got. I kinda think gold would overpower the rest. Navy blue (a lighter than almost black) would look well with these colors. That's what I used in my batik Seminole patchwork jacket |
I looked the Burn's book up online and I did't like the pattern as she did it in red, white and black. What you did though is stunning in my view, something I would love to have.
Have you looked at the block through a door viewer? You might see a bit of what so many of us appreciate.

Ibet it will look great once you've done a few more blocks and can really see what the quilt will look like. I like it a lot.
LOVE IT!!! Also love the whole thing when it was done in quilt pro!! I think it will look awesome!! :)
The block is gorgeous and the quilt will be spectacular. Keep at it, your sister will love it no doubt in my mind.
Well, I love it! I made a black and white king size for my DD for Christmas...I was so glad when it was done...I was so bored with black and white! I like color!! Hang in there... you can do it! :D
I love the colors. Just out of curiosity, place a dark color over the middle star to see if that effects how you see the color scheme..the middle star seems to fade away a little..I think the quilt will be great no matter what! Just keep going.
I liked the original block and and thought your piecing was very nice. Now, seeing the mock-up, I have to say I think it will be spectacularly beautiful! I hope you're able to continue with it in good spirits. I love the colors, the fabrics and the pattern (and I wish I could be your sister...lucky girl!!!)

It is beautiful! What's to hate??
I think it is stunning. Batik's are my favorite.
i love it...i'm wondering if a blue (of similar color) would be nice for the sashing...maybe some seasoned quilters would have a better idea...
It is very pretty, your Sister will like it and that is what is important. I bet you will like it too by the time you are finished with it.
ohhhhhh I love the colors!!!!!
but I agree, it is hard to work on something u hate.... Just try to invision ur sisters happy face when u get it complete! |
I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!! COLORS ARE BOLD AND PLEASING. WOULD LOVE TO HAVE THE PATTERN.
I think this is really pretty. No accounting for taste, I guess:) As far as working with colors/fabric that you don't like, I can relate. I made a NASCAR themed quilt for my DS! Imagine the black and white checks, red, green, orange. Plus panels of 2 different drivers and their numbers. OMG!
I tried to really just go with the theme and do the best I could. I also did FMQ on it. I honestly don't know if he liked it or not. It was a gift and it is gone. Good Luck! |
I love batiks and I think these are stunning colors. I bet before you finish it, you'll love it. Just remember, we are all different, and how boring it would be if we all did the same color of the same quilt. Great pattern, and great colors.
That is soooo pretty.
These two colors are my new favorite color combos!! I saw this in a bag and just fell in love with the two colors together! Please finish it for her! If you only do a couple a day, could you stomach it? If I were making this quilt it would definitely be MY quilt. Wouldn't give this one away.
I like it too. What you have to think is that you are doing it for a client, and believe me, the choices could be worse.
I think its gorgeous. Think of it this way, the faster you get it done, the sooner you won't have to look at it anymore!
Wow, i agree, when it is finished it will be gorgeous...please post finished pic...
I lovve it...I myself am not a fan of aqua or batiks but i really like the combination in this block.
As for you hating it...you have to make up your mind and just make it. In the past i have made a couple of things for my sister she wanted but i thought they were awful. But when i gave it to her the look of pure joy and love on her face made it worth every minute i dreaded working on it. I would make it again if it would make her happy. Just remember the sooner you get it done the sooner you don't have to look at it. |
