Well it's not for you is it ? Your sister loves it so do I

Charleen DiSante 02-01-2011 11:46 AM

LOL, that last comments sounds like: Well, just put your big girl panties on and deal with it. ;0)

grammysharon 02-01-2011 11:48 AM

I think its beautiful

ronnie17 02-01-2011 01:03 PM

I am sorry you don't like it but I think it is stunning!!! Keep at it. Your sister and BIL will love it.

ShowMama 02-01-2011 01:13 PM

Since you let your sister pick the fabrics and her husband pick the pattern, I don't think you have much choice but to go ahead and finish it. Even if you don't love the first block, I bet you'll be surprised that the final product is quite stunning and I bet you'll like it a whole lot more then.

BizzieLizzie 02-01-2011 01:19 PM

Hi, I can understand the reluctance to continue a project you don't really like. It is a beautiful block though and personally I love the combo. I think that working on a few blocks with breaks in between and working on something you enjoy will help. Just need to be disciplined enough to make time for the one you don't really like or it will never get done! Perhaps it will grow on you with time....Best of luck! :D

sewNlove 02-01-2011 01:21 PM

You just have to remember that it's not for you. I don't think it looks that bad. Once it gets done you will most likely be more pleased with the finished result. Don't give up, think of how it is going to make your sister feel when you give it to her.

fixfido 02-01-2011 02:48 PM

I LOVE IT!!!

annieshane 02-01-2011 03:02 PM

I love the fabrics!!! However, I would never have had the nerve to include all of them in one block...my quilts will always be boring compared to this. This is going to be a beautiful quilt! Your sister says she loves it! That is what matters.

cathyvv 02-01-2011 03:07 PM

Not a batik lover myself, but so many people do love them...what are you going to do?

lol That is what I will tell myself the next time someone else chooses a pattern and fabric that I don't like.

Jackie R 02-01-2011 04:46 PM

Does this block design have a name? It's a very pretty design.

Alondra 02-01-2011 04:53 PM

I'm with your SIL - I LOVE IT! I was expecting something just too ugly to look at. Keep reminding yourself that this is a gift for her, not for you, and maybe that will help you get on with it. When you finish, would you please make me one just like it? <G>

annpryor 02-01-2011 04:58 PM

Well I am with your sister I Love It. Go for it girl it will be beautiful.

lavadahaga 02-01-2011 05:10 PM

It's beautiful! I love the fabrics and you did a great job on the block.

rob529 02-01-2011 06:11 PM

Just remind yourself how happy you are making your sister and the smile you are putting on her face. Your goal is to make her happy with the quilt. They are going to be so proud of this quilt, their choices and your talent and love. I'm not a purple person and i think it is so stricking.

QuiltingHiker 02-01-2011 06:13 PM

Not sure what you dislike about it.

I love the fabric and the block.

That said I hated the fabric and pattern my daughter choose, it took me 2 years to finish it!!!

dede 02-01-2011 06:18 PM

Wow... I love it too! The pinks and blues and purples are a great combination. I did a king size batik in pinks and dusty blues ("Not Your Grandmother's Log Cabin" design) for a 90 year old aunt and trying to finish it off was a real hassle and I was not fond of the quilt until it was totally finished and quilted... now I am very happy that my friend and I chose the colors we did and put it together for my aunt who absolutely loves it! Wish I'd used more of the deep purple because I LOVE the contrast but my aunt was more into country blue and pink/mauve colors so it came out very well.
Good luck and keep telling yourself, "one more block for my sister"... you'll be done before you know it and she will be very happy you "stuck it out for her"...

IndyQuilter 02-01-2011 07:42 PM

I'm sorry you don't like it. I think it is very pretty and will be a beautiful quilt when finished. Good luck with the project.

The Creative Seamstress 02-01-2011 07:46 PM

To each their own, once the picture loaded, I personally liked it - I'm not not really a batik person. Even though you don't particularly care for it, just think of how happy your sister will be once it's completed, and in the end that's all that should matter. This one will just be more of a labor or love than most, that's all! ;)

Explosive blessings, abundance and inspiration to you all!

Just keep plugging along. Quilt some, walk away, close the door, scream and go back to quilting and before you know it you will have the quilt done and out of your quilt room.

purplefiend 02-01-2011 08:22 PM

you could send me the scraps and the "ugly" block.
I love it! I like batiks, use them a lot. :-D

kgb007 02-02-2011 12:44 AM

godd point thanks

Ragann63 02-02-2011 07:51 AM

Yikes!! I love it! I can understand your difficulty working on something you don't particularly like, but try to remember the quilt isn't for you...put your love in it as if it is your absolute favorite quilt in the world!! Your effort will mean far more to your sister and her husband than the quilt.

Annaquilts 02-02-2011 07:53 AM

I would make it and focus on the fact she loves it. I personally like it. Very pretty. I know it is hard to work on colors or patterns you do not like. So I do understand what you are saying.

MadP 02-02-2011 07:55 AM

I like it.

mayday 02-02-2011 08:16 AM

it is WONDERFULLY bright, do so like ,let us see the finished article.

janetter 02-02-2011 07:41 PM

Gotta tell u.....I LOVE IT just my color and I love batiks even the pattern is awesome. MAYBE it will grow on you lol. Good Luck!!!!!

Grandma58 02-02-2011 07:47 PM

I agree with your sister, I love it. I have found doing things I think I hate moves me out of whatever box I happen to be in, it promotes change, ultimately a good thing, often done kciking and screaming in my case?

Rainbow 02-02-2011 08:23 PM

The more you quilt it, to lovier it will be....I had the same problem with mauve and white blocks. Completed it was awesome...but not soon before. Keep up the fight and you will see.

Janice Thompson 02-03-2011 06:40 PM

I think the colors are beautiful. If it is difficult to work on, look at it his way You won't have to live with it. I dida turning twenty quilt. The customer wanted the same colors as pictured. I was going to enter it in the uglist quilt contest.

rebeljane 02-04-2011 04:52 AM

Hate to say it but it is your sister's quilt and she loves it. So you will just have to grin and bear it - sorry

Lilrain 02-04-2011 05:30 AM

lt looks really nice to me, and remember it is a gift of love for your sister and she loves it. Put in a favorite CD and think pleasant thoughts as you work, and you may find you love it also

Grandma Cindy 02-07-2011 05:04 PM

that is one gorgeous block and is going to make an even prettier quilt... you can do it, yes you can!! she will be showing that off to everyone that walks into her home...

Karen K. 02-07-2011 05:28 PM

I do not know why you hate it. Your pieces match beautifully and the colors are intersting. I think it will "grow" on you. I am anxious to see the finished product.

auntmag 02-07-2011 05:30 PM

You are not required to like it, just make it as promised and you will feel good about it.

joeyoz 02-07-2011 05:34 PM

I love it. I just love Batiks. I think once you get more blocks done and put them together you might have a different opinion.
