So, I bought this fabric on a trip in San Francisco, in Haight-Ashbury, at a craft store with a nice fabric section. At the time, I loved it, but my family hates it. I was going to use it decoratively, to wrap around a canvas and hang it on the wall, or make a quilted chair rail. But, it is still sitting unused.
I still think I like it, but I am at a loss as to what I can do with it.

Any suggestions? Do you like it? What would you do with it? (And no Halloween suggestions, please:-) - thanks.)

Can you cut out a nice size piece- use batting and a backing -- quilt around the pictures/faces/ etc -- make a wall hanging

amma 10-15-2010 01:29 PM

How big are the faces in this print?

bluteddi 10-15-2010 01:30 PM

.... hmm so the wall hanging is out huh????? darn... oh well.... how about.... some nice big plump floor pillows?

cjomomma 10-15-2010 01:31 PM

I'm sorry but I have to side with your family. I don't like it at all, even my DD cringed at it and she has weird taste.

M.E.H. 10-15-2010 01:38 PM

I like the fabric. It is something that I would buy without a plan for it.

Quiltforme 10-15-2010 01:46 PM

I love it but have no idea what to do with it sorry.

Matilda 10-15-2010 01:54 PM

I don't care for it either. Sorry. I would probably cut it up in 2-1/2 widths and use it for a binding. That was my first thought.

MaryStoaks 10-15-2010 02:01 PM

Maybe do a one block wonder? The ones I've seen don't reveal much of the original pattern, just pieces.

Candace 10-15-2010 02:05 PM

I love it, but I'm into modern abstract decor. Putting it on a canvas is a great idea.

T-Bones mom 10-15-2010 02:13 PM

OBW is what I was thinking. You never know how they will look. I bet it would be gorgeous.

sueisallaboutquilts 10-15-2010 02:41 PM

If your family hates it I don't think it's a good idea to use it where they have to see it. It's pretty bizarre, no offense!

Ditter43 10-15-2010 05:05 PM

If the faces aren't too large, you could make some bags. Do some thread painting on the faces to give them a little more life. :?: :?:

Janie Q 10-15-2010 05:13 PM

Put it on a quilt backing or the back of a wall hanging. That can hide it from the family but you will know where it is and can enjoy looking at it! LOL.

bearisgray 10-15-2010 05:16 PM

Keep it in a drawer and take it out and pet it now and then?

It is definitely - different.

UglyCook 10-15-2010 05:17 PM

I think it'd be an awesome tote bag

I like this idea. Otherwise, it's a little scary to have hanging around the house!

mypatookis 10-15-2010 05:59 PM

Oh, I think a OBW would be good as long as none of the blocks came out all eyes. Those eyes kind of spook me a bit...
Interesting fabric... I would have loved it in the 60s! 8-)

wvdek 10-15-2010 06:15 PM

Sorry, but I think that is some of the ugliest fabric I have ever seen.

CarrieAnne 10-15-2010 06:28 PM

If you really like it, how about a nice bag? Then it wont be for the family, just you!

vwquilting 10-15-2010 06:29 PM

I am not sure I would use it on my walls but a teenager would love it I would decorate some of them with hoop earrings.

I like this idea.

Another vote for making it into a bag. To me, that's what it screams. Or an oversize T-shirt. It looks like something you would wear.

oldhag 10-15-2010 06:49 PM

When I looked at it, the first thing that popped into my mind was a '60's style sleeveless dress and for some reason Jim Morrison. I like Ditter's idea too.I guess I'm with you onthis one.....I like it and if I had seen it,it would have come home with me too.

vintagemotif 10-15-2010 07:00 PM

A bit scary for my taste. You could use it on a back of a quilt. The front could be a whirligig pattern that has the colors in this print, or a black and white log cabin pattern with a red or orange center square.

leonajo 10-15-2010 07:19 PM

That is great Fabric for a large Tote Bag. Be sure and add some Red, lining maybe? Not sure if that is blue or purple shadings? on some of the faces? Might wanta pick that up too? Most of the best looking Totes ae really Bold. For prints that big, don't go for a small contrast print, the bolder and sharper the better. My bff is an Artist, and she makes incredable Tote Bags! These r her rules :)

oatw13 10-15-2010 07:44 PM

For some reason, I see a lampshade! It looks like something I might buy, too!

Maybe you can just cover a small canvas and hang it in the bathroom or kitchen?

I think a home should represent everyone's style! (Yes, ours is very eclectic.)

It is very 'Haight-Ashbury', isn't it? I like it, but I think I would get tired of it after awhile.

Naturalmama 10-15-2010 07:57 PM

Some of the eyes are scary, some are kinda cool - I think if you could cut where you wanted, a tote bag would be a great way to use it. Otherwise, do a canvas, with a "good" face centered - and put it in your sewing room or laundry room - somewhere that's "your" space.

QuiltQtrs 10-15-2010 07:58 PM

I woud add painted and decorative beading as ornate headbands, and
do some wild eyeglass frames.

Twilliebee 10-15-2010 08:03 PM

Make a couple of things you love (wrapping a canvas is a great idea) and hang it/use them in an area you use the most. What about 'upholstering' your sewing chair? I love the fabric. Great find!

trisha 10-15-2010 08:54 PM

OBW sounds great, and the family will never really know that it was this creepy fabric. LOL

I love the idea of a canvas bag!! You could make a few take a tote and cover one or both sides the embellish it. Or make it out of jean material. What is the name of the fabric I really like it. Take care!!

Agree. A nice A-line skirt perhaps?

deema 10-15-2010 11:52 PM

I'd make a bag...a big one, like an overnight bag or oversized tote. Its definitely not my style, but I see a bag.

diannemc 10-16-2010 12:34 AM

I like it!

Patch a color fabrics, bright ones over making this as a base or pattern for new colored picture.Different eyes, skin colors, hair
The rest, make it as backing for other quilts .

carolaug 10-16-2010 02:04 AM

I was thinking the same thing...it would make a really neat tote bag.

Yarn or Fabric 10-16-2010 03:07 AM

I think it's kind of funky and a bit eerie at the same time. I like to make tote and grocery bags. I'd use it for a tote bag or two.. having said that I didn't read how much you had of it. If you have several yards I'm not sure how many tote bags you'd want lol

pvquilter 10-16-2010 05:00 AM

I have no clue what you could do with it. It is not what I would buy.

bearisgray 10-16-2010 05:03 AM

I think I also would have bought some of it - just because it is so different. Have no idea what I would have done with it, though.
