Help with Old Quilt
3 Attachment(s)
This is my first time posting something. I'm working on a 'quilt' for a co-worker's son. His great-grandmother made it for him over 24 years ago and he wanted me to 'fix it' for him. Well, I'm posting what I've done so far and would value your opinions.
Picture 1 is what he gave me to 'fix'. Picture 2 is what I salvaged. Picture 3 is what I've done so far. I still have a long way to go. I used my scrubs from work and some material I found at Good Will. I plan to take time and finish it by hand. |
You did a great job. Can't believe that quilt is only 24 years old. That poor quilt had the bejeebers kicked out of it. Good luck!
Oh my gosh! What a great salvage! I couldn't imagine trying to save that quilt and you did it so wonderfully! Beautiful work!
Mercy, that looks like it is well loved. You have done a terrific job salvaging it. Be sure when you turn it back to him to let him know that whatever he had done with it, it won't survive another salvaging.
You're one brave woman. I wouldn't have thought that quilt could have had any life left in it. Beautiful job.
Great Job !!!
What a project. I wouldn't even know how to begin.
What a marvelous rescue. I'm sure it was more the memory than the guilt, you did a great thing!
You are doing marvelously!
You have done wonders with this quilt! I wouldn't have even attempted that job!
nicely done... great save
Good job! I wouldn't have known where to start!
Well my word. I would have called that daunting but you actually did it! great job!!!!
You did a great job, if he had asked me I am afraid I would have said no way
I think you've done a wonderful job. That original quilt was quite the mess!
I am surprised you could even salvage it - you are doing a great job - won't he be surprised to get his quilt back.
You are a terrific woman to tackle that job! Nice save.
I must say that you did an amazing job, bowing down to the queen.
Holy cow! I agree with the ladies here, I would not have even known where to start. That quilt looked like it was just ready for the "stuffing" bag. You are so brave to take it on and give it new life. Please keep sharing posts as you continue the journey.
You are officially "Wonder Woman" for that job. I would never have attempted to fix it. I think you have the patience of Job.
You are doing a fantastic job! I would have just made a new quilt using the largest pieces of the old quilt. It looks like it must have gone camping and to the beach a few too many times.
I TRULY APPRECIATE ALL THE ENCOURAGEMENT!! I am doing this on my vacation. I will post the finished quilt when I'm done as it's going to take some time. I go back to work on Monday. THANK YOU ALL FOR THE ENCOURAGEMENT!!!:)
*** Kudos for tackling it. ***
You have done an amazing job. I would not have known where to begin.
You have done a truly amazing job on this quilt. I would love to see it when you are finished with it. You must feel so proud of a job well done.
Are you kidding me? How in the world did it get in this condition? He's lucky he found you - I could NEVER have taken this on.
When I saw picture 1 my first thought was "no way". You certainly have taken on a huge challenge and done wonders with the quilt!
I am astounded that you (1) took this on and (2) made a success of it. Good job!
That was obviously a much loved quilt. I love it when my grandkids quilts look like that BUT I don't try to salvage them.
Kudos to you. Good job! |
I saw one about this bad when I was at my son's house over the holidays. It was a quilt I made for my grandson about 24 yrs. ago. If it hadn't been hand quilted it would have been this bad. I didn't see how I could save it.
The thing that get the quilts in the shape is people think they need to wash them every week or so and use harsh detergents and even bleach.
Wonderful work!
Oh, my, goodness!!! You are a better person than me! I would have said..can I just make you a new quilt? (Which it looks like you have done)
Talk about life being breathed into something! That is a miracle.Great job.
That quilt was put thru the wringer! You've done an excellent job so far. Admire your determination!

This is my thoughts exactly. You are doing a wonderful job saving it. |
wow, that quilt was loved to death or maybe wasn't sewn the best to begin with or fabrics weren't good quality (apologies to great-gramma). I'm amazed that you took this project on, and did such a great job salvaging it (like others said) ... if it comes back to you again, I would just put a new back on it, new top and let all the other stuff in the middle, LOL.
Thanks for sharing, I've never seen anything like this b4! |
You are a life saver....I wouldn't have taken the challenge!
I can't believe what a miraculous job you did saving this quilt. I probably would have run the other way.
Looks good. Glad you took the time to rescue it. Thanks for sharing!
