I need help in deciding on borders for my nephews quilt. I'm afraid I have given myself too many choices and am not totally confused. Plus, my husband doesn't like my choice. Suggestions please?

Here is the 4th choice. |
For what it's worth, I like the second picture the best. The colors and the cars just seem to go the best with the quilt.

The borders you have chosen are all to busy. You need a border that does not have such a big design. A blue, black, gray would be better choices. The car blocks you made are being hidden by your border choices. the car blocks are very busy and you need a more calming border. Do not use a solid but something that is marbelized, mottled are reads solid.

Love the quilt! Love the theme
IMHO I think you need the boarder to be quiet. Something like a black, it would give your eyes somewhere to rest. I did a 'bright' busy quilt that I almost put on a busy border. After I did what was suggested to me, I liked the quilt more. |
I like the solid black to me will bring all the other colors together.
Definately the solid black.
I like the solid black and then the cars. Gives my eye a break and makes the blocks stand out.
I vote black :) Awesome blocks, great job

I vote for the solid black also.
I also vote for the black...

Black
I go for black too!
I agree, black then the cars. Makes those cars pop.
I like the second picture as well!
I agree you need a calmer border...the print border takes away from the blocks you made.

I LIKE THE SECOND PICTURE BEST
I would go with a solid, otherwise it looks too busy and confusing.
I think I would go with a black sashing and the rt 66 fabric as the main border.
Same for me, the second foto, it brings everythign together, and the background on the car strip gives the eye someplace to 'rest'.
What a great quilt you made! |
#2 for me
I like #2 also.
Voting black, too.
I like the checkerborad and then the cars.

Thanks to everyone---you reinforced my thinking, so off I went to Walmart tonight to pickup some black fabric. Much to my surprise, everything is on sale at 50% off.. Good for me I bought 10 pieces of fabric over 23 yards of fabric and only paid $23.00. Unfortunately, they are like so many Walmart stores and closing down their fabric department. Boohoo. Oh well there's still Joann and Hancock..
Thanks again for all your input. |
I guess I got in on this discussion a little too late but here is my idea anyway. I like the black and white check, it goes with the car theme. How about a 2" black border, then add one row of the black and white checks, then another 2" black border. It calms down the "busy" but still keeps the checkered flag!
Liked the first one the best. Seemed to flow the most for me, see ask 100 people get 100 answers.. its what you like and its not for your hubby. The best advisers are the ones who havent done it! That said we mess up too. Not me of course, just those.. other ones.
I like the second choice. Cute quilt!!!
Black

Black

I'm no help, I like all of your choices! But it looks like you've found a plan. It's going to look good no matter what you do!

I agree with the suggestion of black.
I would go for a solid color myself... the quilt itself already has alot of colors and you don't want it to be lost in the border..
I vote for black too!!
