i usually improvise and place the thread to one side on something. i have used a stick thru it just to keep it on the table. i then thread the machine as usual and the thread pulls evenly like that. i havent come up with a holder yet i am sure someone has but my improvisation works quite well

I was watching a tutorial the other day and the instructor had one of the large spools inside of a quart mason jar set next to her sewing machine, and then threaded the machine as usual. I bought a separate thread guide to hold the spools some time ago, which works fine except it cost me about $15 for it. I always have at least two machines set up for sewing so I used a larger jelly jar and dropped the large spool into it and threaded my singer machine and it worked great! I then moved it over to my bobbin threader and used the spool/jar and loaded up several bobbins it worked fine too. I am not to great in thinking about new ideas, but I am quick to borrow any good idea that someone has. Try this and see if it works for you. I think the jar should be glass to have enough weight not to move around or take some silly puddy to hold it from moving.

what about getting one of those metal spool holders that sits on the table. I got one and I had put one on it and it looks like it would work. They don't cost that much.

I watched a video and she used just a Bell canning jar to put her cone in and it fed through the machine beautifully without spinning out of the jar. I'm going to try it.

I use a wooden dowel thats been drilled out, so it can fit right over the metal pin. A 4 or 5 inch dowel will do fine.

I also do this and in addition I put an empty bobbin on my regular thread spindle and wrap the thread around it once so that the tread feeds from the right direction. Works like a charm (and '0' dollars spent is an even better deal than $5.00 and up.)

when i worked as a professional seamstress, we had a basic stand(wooden square with tall dowel or metal rod with a loop or round eye on the side of the top and another to hold the spool) this allowed the thread spool to rest securily on the dowel and the threading thru the round eye over the the sm without problem. easy to assemble.
