I have a dear friend who collects chickens, too and does not quilt, or even sew. She has been admiring my chicken quilt since the first time she ever saw it--still in pieces on my design wall. So, this year for her birthday I decided to make her a chicken lap quilt.

Not a very good pic-no one around to hold the quilt for me while I snap a shot....

Don't look too close--I quilted this one myself and my free motion quilting leaves a LOT to be desired.

I fussy cut some of my fabric and used 3 X 6" strips for a pieced border.

Well--the rest of the story is that her birthday was several weeks ago! I didn't have the binding on it yet--but I gave it to her anyway and then brought it home to bind and sew little eyes on. I did not take a picture of her when she opened it---but she was speechless to begin with and then cried. I think she liked it :D

Steph-I collected these patterns for years!! A lot of them are Country Threads http://php1.secure-shopping.com/coun...ome.php?cat=11

I also found some in magazines, books and online. They are everywhere, once you start looking for them.

I am hopelessly addicted to chickens now--I cannot pass up a piece of chicken fabric-even though I have no need, desire or reason to make anything else with a chicken on it!!!

Marcia 10-04-2008 11:03 AM

Thanks, everyone--Cindy LOVES her quilt!!!

retrogirl02 10-04-2008 12:37 PM

Marcia,
I looked at that link you posted for patterns and LOVE the chicken on the mailbox!! How cute is that? I have a good friend of mine who just started raising chickens....I'll have to be on the lookout for patterns and fabrics to pour over & know she'd really appreciate it.
