That is the cutest chicken quilt!!! I love it. My favorite is the rooster at the bottom with the long tail!!! Not sure what to do with the borders, but I am with you on using up the fabrics you already have, somehow.

Harmony 02-27-2009 11:38 PM

can I just say I LOVE CHICKENS! now with that out of the way that has got to be the cutest quilt I have ever layed eyes on. :D I have never ever even tried applique but if that is how those chickens got so darn adorable I will have to figure it out. The colors are great and it is all just so......whimsical looking. Did I say I love it!? Great Job

beachlady 02-28-2009 08:13 AM

Terri, I was thinking the same thing - how did i ever miss this???

Melissa, that is so cute. And all the work you put into it. Love it!!!!! Makes me want to start one - just like the other ones did. Off to search for patterns.

Grandma Cindy 02-28-2009 12:28 PM

Hard to take ones eyes off it, the more you look, the more great things to see, Cindy...

pal 02-28-2009 07:18 PM

You put so much love into all of your quilts and this is no exception.

How happy is this quilt??????? I just love it!

How about using the left-overs for the back, as somebody here suggested, maybe chix footprints making a pattern all over the back. -
maybe even leading to a nest. (do chickens nest?)

mgshaw 02-28-2009 07:48 PM

Oh wow! I hadnt even thought that far ahead to the back!!  I guess it will need one eventually, wont it? :D Very good ideas pal!!!!!! You all are giving me so much to think about, a lot of really cute ideas!!!! Thank you!!!!! :D

sandpat 03-01-2009 05:40 AM

Oooohhhhh, Melissa...somehow I missed this and can't believe it! It is adorable! I am just going to get out my stack of patterns and get started on mine! I love yours! I'm trying to figure out how to get all the "odd" size blocks to play together nicely. Did you add strips to all of them to reach a uniform size for your rows?? What size is it? I'm still such a newbie but I like the look of the different size blocks. I know, that sounds sooo dorkie.

Pal has a really cute idea about the back!

Can't wait to see what you come up with for your border. I might have to take a HST break today and do some cutting for chicken applique

Alaskan lady 03-01-2009 06:16 AM

Melissa you are so creative. You came up with a great color combination and lay out for all the different patterns. the more I look at it the more different things I see. Love the egg running around with her feet showing!

mgshaw 03-01-2009 07:56 AM

Sandpat, I worked in sections. I think there were seven sections in all. Then added the strips and filler to make everything fit together.

Alaskan lady I love that little egg too!!! I thought it was so cute!!! :D

Mplsgirl 03-01-2009 08:24 AM

I guess I missed this too! OMG that is soooo cute! I have enuf trouble with blocks that are supposed to be the same size, let alone using different sizes! So very creative - this one should win a prize!

nellie 03-01-2009 12:51 PM

oh i love it just love it ,i like your patterns that you used to pull it well togather    you got it going girl

maryb.43 03-01-2009 01:48 PM

Wow...that is fantastic. Are you the artist that created the pattern or what...I love this style and would like to find some more patterns with the same kind of "look" about them. Any ideas?

Celeste 03-01-2009 04:46 PM

It's so much fun just to sit and gaze at it!

Evelynquilts 03-01-2009 04:51 PM

I love your quilt. The colors that you chose are so bright and cheery. Can't wait until you post photo of it with borders.

Nell 03-05-2009 09:16 AM

Hi! Where did you purchase the chicken wire fabric? One of my daughters loves chickens, and I'd like to someday do something similar to the other gal's quilt. I hope she enters that quilt into a show!

Nell 03-05-2009 09:19 AM

Melissa! That quilt is awesome! I hope you enter it into a show. I saw where some respondent suggested a chicken wire border would be good. . . that sounds like a great way to finish the quilt. One of my daughters loves chickens, so you've given me a great idea. Thank you.

Katrine 03-05-2009 09:25 AM

Melissa, if you haven't decided on borders yet, I have seen "egg" fabric and "chicken feathers" on a UK site, see
http://www.thebramblepatch.co.uk/sho...IC&SG=Chickens

They don't say who the manufacturer is though - I can contact them & ask if you would like me too - it would expensive to buy from Uk though as you can see, but you should be able to source it in USA.

soozi 03-05-2009 09:31 AM

I am a chicken nut as well..what a great inspiration you are.. chicken wire border sounds great, or corn kernals...

turtlefuss 03-05-2009 09:48 AM

HOLY MOLY!!!!! I have a friend that just LOVES chickens, she would die for this quilt. it is GORGEOUS!!! I am jealous!!!

reneebobby 03-05-2009 09:57 AM

As prettykitty would say perrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrfect.

JudeWill 03-05-2009 10:00 AM

I haven't posted before, but after seeing your quilt I just had to tell you how gorgeous it is. It is amazing! How you managed to get all those chickens on and have it look so perfect I can't imagine!

pennyswings 03-05-2009 10:21 AM

love the quilt! :D It is so imaginative. Love the eggs as details. Keep border simple like Blue Chicken's suggestion, make bricks bigger you do not want to detract from the cute chickens and all the detail you put into this work of art.
