Here is my Dear Jane quilt

I made this twin sized "Merry Dear Jane" quilt a few years ago. I did it on my own just with the book. I did all of the blocks in a three month period. I was on a roll!! Some days I did just one and some days three. I LOVED working on this quilt.

I did not do the border I came up with an easier one. It is still waiting to be quilted.

Here I am with my Mother viewing the REAL DJ in Vermont. The quilt is even more beautiful in person.

Thanks so much for sharing the original. I am so in awe of this quilt. Each block 4 inches and each one unique. I would love to make one if I could be accurate at 4 inches I would try. I am not there yet.

gollytwo 07-06-2012 08:28 AM

Do post it on the web Janiacs page

burchquilts 07-06-2012 09:00 AM

Wow! You just can't get enough of this one, can you? I don't blame you! If I could get a Jane to turn out as beautifully as yours did, I'd be making them by the dozen! Your quilt is just exquisite & you have my admiration for your stick-to-it-ness. Kudos!!!

donnaree59 07-06-2012 09:10 AM

I am always amazed by the details and hard work put into these quilts...so much so that I am afraid to ever commit myself to making one! It is beautiful!

Dunster said "I admire anyone who has made a DJ. Congratulations - yours is lovely." Me too. Well done to you. It looks fabulous. Something to be treasured for many generations to come hopefully. Quite an achievement.

I saw the original after I saw mine. We also drove to Shaftsbury and visited Jane's grave. Did you all know that people leave small pieces of fabric on her headstone?? I read online a the DJ website how people from all over the world who were working on the quilt donated money to have her headstone replaced since it was falling apart. I would have LOVED to have contibutued but I didn't even know the quilt or she existed! Here is a picture of her headstone for those who have not seen it.

nygal 07-06-2012 03:30 PM

You can see on the bottom right some scraps of fabric and two little rocks on top. I have visited her grave about three times and each time there has been some fabric on it. The Stickle name is on the very top of the stone at the tip of the picture. Bennington is only about a 45 minute ride from my house.

jillnjo 07-06-2012 03:35 PM

Absolutely fabulous!!!! I am fasinated with the DJ and would like to say I had one that I had made. Maybe someday?

Kitsie 07-06-2012 03:37 PM

Kudos to you. I know there's a nickname for anybody that does a Dear Jane quilt---just can't remember what it is. Anyhow, you've earned it. Thanks for sharing your version of Jane.

SheriR 07-06-2012 10:01 PM

HaHa it seems to me it's Janiac. Your quilt is beautiful! I'm plugging away at one. Nice job!

Suzan88 07-06-2012 10:16 PM

That's such a lot of work but what a fabulous outcome. I'm going to google Dear Jane to find out more about the story behind the original one. Thanks for sharing.

DoriDeS 07-07-2012 08:00 AM

That's beautiful :o)

nygal 07-07-2012 10:14 AM

I found the border that I used in the book "Beautiful Borders, Backings & Bindings" by Jill Reber and Margaret Sindelar. Don't get me wrong I LOVE the real DJ border but I just knew it would be more than I could do and enjoy doing! I saw a DJ quilt at a quilt show that had NO border at all and it really looked naked. So I knew I had to find one that would work for me.
