Here it is...My fisrst ever quilt....
1 Attachment(s)
I have been after my daughter to get this out of storage before she lost it, and she finally has. Please be kind.(It was made before I learned to use the color wheel. Lol.). I found the background fabric at a variety store, chose two colors out of it (at least I knew that much) and using my first pattern purchased managed to make it. I was inspired by watching Nancy Zeiman and Eleanor Burns for the first time. It isn’t showy but it is one of her treasures. She has promised never to have it in storage again. (Now I can sleep nights...lol.)

It is lovely and a treasure to still have in the family.
My first quilt circa 1986 was an Eleanor Burns Quilt in a Day, Trip Around the World. Yup one of the fabrics did not work, but I am glad I made it, and kept it was it was the start of my adventure in quilting. |
Nice quilt. My first quilt is in the back of my car for the dog to lay on. All the batting shifted to one side
You should be very proud of yourself for a first quilt. This is a lovely memory and momento of yesteryear!
I’m sure we all remember our first quilts. I still have mine. Not on display though
Good job I like the fabric you used. You should be very proud. There will be no stopping you now. What's next?

I never use the color wheel. I think it is very pretty.
it's a treasure and much better than my first quilt
The colors look great and the pattern is a classic. Good job for a first quilt. It's nice that your daughter still has it.
Good job!!
This is a pretty quilt with a nice design and good color choices. I am glad it is no longer in storage.
It's got a lovely vintage vibe to it--classic design, the calicos, the green apple border--it all works. Glad your girl got it out of storage--that's no place for a treasure. Now you can both rest easy.
Kool. Love that she still had it and it now is out of storage. It's a fine quilt and still very pretty. BrendaK

Great job - Keep on going!
What a sweet treasure! Neat that she still has it. :)
What a wonderful keepsake to have as a reminder of how far you’ve come as a quilter.
The colors are fine. As long as they play well together, it’s all good. Nice to see it finished and being used.

This is the first one I did. I gave it to my sister, so I still get to see it because she lives right next door. A Nine Patch, that was tied. I did not actually quilt them back then.
not bad at all for the first time!!! you too Boston!
I think the colors work fine. You did a great job!

So nice to have those 1st quilts. I started quilting about 15 years ago and my 1st quilt was the Trip Around the World. It looked terrible so never had it quilted until 2 years ago. The LongArm Quilter did a fantastic job on it and now I love it.
It was made with love and that is all that counts.
MadameKelly- I think your first quilt is really sweet! It has that vintage look to it.

Thanks for sharing. First quilts are the first step on this wonderful journey. Mine was a brick pattern, a scrappy made with red and yellow ginghams and primary colored calicos for our daughter...made in the mid seventies. It too was tied and used an old blanket for batting. The backing is a 60" wide piece of gingham and finished using the envelope method. My grand daughter has it now. The next quilt was made out of blue flannel scraps for our son in a double 4 patch pattern. Also tied...it wore out..a good sign of a well loved baby quilt.

Very nice first quilt and glad it is out of storage.
I think its beautiful - the colours give it a soft, country-cottage look. What a treasure.
The first quilt that I made was a baby quilt for a friends daughter. Pinwheels with a prairie point border - I was so happy with it, it was a real wrench to pack it up and send it away. Part of me wishes I'd kept it - but I know that my friend appreciates it, so it has gone to a good home where it will be loved - that makes me feel a bit better :) |

Pink & green really compliment each other. You made a wonderful quilt!
It's a lot better than some and typical for a first quilt. You did a great job with the colors. An excellent example of a first quilt.
Technically you did utilize the color wheel when making this, even if you did so unknowingly you obviously had an intuition for color. Red and green are complimentary colors on the color wheel. The peachy pink and light sage green are simply dilutes of red and green so are still complimentary.
I think the first quilts displayed are lovely! My first quilt was about eight inch squares cut with scissors will a cotton twill backing, tied, with the backing brought to the front as a border. It was king sized! I swear that thing weighed a hundred pounds. I don't know what happened to it. I hope a homeless person has it because it will make a swell, warm tent!
That's so nice!!
My first quilt is from a guild block exchange by 12 members. Each month a member would select the pattern and colors. The next month one would receive 11 blocks, while a added several. I sashed and stitched the blocks together by machine and then hand quilted. It is pretty and I was so proud of my accomplishment but, oh my, the number of points I stitched into the sashing. Don't look too closely. Thank heavens, I have learned from my mistakes and I am still learning.

Looks darn good for your first one
