Here is the quilt I made for my husband. He wanted black and white quares and black border and he wanted it tied. This is the first quilt I have made and completed.

My question is that I washed it and cannot get the wrinkles out . I tried ironing it and it just wrinkled worse. any suggestions please?

judylg 12-06-2010 05:36 PM

Nice quilt, I really like it! Wrinkles, would not worry about them, myself anyways.

Could your batting have wrinkled in the wash? Were you able to press the top smooth before washing? What kind of batting did you use? Need more info to figure it out.

cjomomma 12-06-2010 05:40 PM

It's probably the type of batting you used. I wouldn't worry about it. You have made a very nice quilt, I love the black and white.

craftybear 12-06-2010 05:40 PM

CoriAmD 12-06-2010 05:40 PM

I personally think the wrinkles give the quilt character. Just my opinion. By the way, you did a great job!

SueDor 12-06-2010 05:43 PM

Pickles 12-06-2010 05:49 PM

You made a real pretty Quilt I wouldn't worry about it.
It could be just the kind of Batting you used , if you didn't use a Batting at all with a light weight Fabric it would do this..
:D

aaaaaahh!a QUILT WITH CHARACTER.I LOVE THE WRINKLES PAB

Sadiemae 12-06-2010 05:59 PM

When you start to use it, and it is washed several time your wrinkles will probably settle down.

Beginner64 12-06-2010 06:00 PM

I personally think that it is a lovely quilt, nothing wrong with the wrinkles. They look like maybe 10 or 12" squares. I'm thinking that with only one tie in the middle of each one might be the reason why you think that you have to many wrinkles. The next one you might try adding ties every 4 to 6". It could also be due in part to the batting that was used. These are just some ideas on my part. I love the quilt just as it is. Keep up the good work.

It's great. You could add more ties even now, just press and straighten it as much as possible first. And from now on, lay flat to dry. Remember that you used cotton, it will wrinkle no matter what you do. Enjoy it!

If everything was not prewashed, it will wrinkle. I like your nascar flag quilt! Looks good.

Cyn 12-06-2010 08:24 PM

sueisallaboutquilts 12-06-2010 08:42 PM

This quilt is great. It looks like one a person could really curl up and get cozy with. I would not worry about the wrinklesm it adds that loved and used look.

FranW 12-06-2010 10:42 PM

Great quilt!

Lilrain 12-06-2010 11:32 PM

Was yur batting pre-washed? It looks like the batting may have shrunk a little more than the top. I always pre-wash my batting. But then again, if you used polyester batting it would not have shrunk. Maybe you did not have it stretched tight when you did the tying. Did you have it in a frame? back taped to a large table?

MerryQuilter 12-07-2010 03:46 AM

Quits are dimensional looks great!

chickadeee55 12-07-2010 03:53 AM

I would say it looks puffy and comfy. (like a comforter)Nice colors

just-sew-together 12-07-2010 04:01 AM

The wrinkles aren't objectionable ......but might be less noticeable if you added more ties. I love tie quilts but I try to keep the ties spaced about 3" apart then there is little worry about the batting shifting. Maybe do a sample block just to see if it lessens the wrinkled look.

BTW..... you did a great job! Keep up the good work.

rootyr 12-07-2010 04:03 AM

Nothing wrong with wrinkles!!

missmabeliowa 12-07-2010 04:11 AM

Personally, I think wrinkles give a quilt character. Nice job!
My thought would be maybe the batting didn't have a chance to settle b 4 u tied it OR maybe u had your backing stretched more than the top was. Who knows? I'm not an experienced quilter, but still, u got your 1st 1 accomplished and bet your excited wondering what you'll do next. Good luck.

texaspam 12-07-2010 04:41 AM

Between washing and using fabric softener and just plain use, I think the wrinkles will settle down. I wouldn't worry about it at all. Just enjoy your quilt. I don't get too stressed out about too much anymore. I do my best and let it go. Way to go on your finish. I have tied quilts before and I think it is backbreaking work to lean over that fabric to tie it. Congratulations on your finish!

sewred 12-07-2010 05:24 AM

I think it was the batting I used it was a "fluffy" batting. Also while hand sewing the binding on I probably wrinkled it up cause I'm really short! hahaha He said he loves it wrinkles and all!

Thank you all for the lovely comments I have to go I have tears in my eyes from all the warmth I feel from you all!

quilt3311 12-07-2010 05:42 AM

You might add a few more ties. Maybe halfway between the center ties and the corners. It will help hold things in place.

Confederate Rose 12-07-2010 06:19 AM

Don't worry about the wrinkling. Most of mine wrinkle. It's a quilt! I love the black and white.
