This one I can't seem to stay focused on. I have been literally working on this one for years. I have the stars quilted in the ditch so I really don't know what my problem is other than I am thinking I need to do fancy stitching; have been thinking about giving machine quilting a try, but my machine, a Singer, is over 30 years in age and I haven't been able to find a walking foot for it.

Please let me know your thoughts on the color combination. All input is truly appreciated.

Beautiful quilt. Not sure what to say on the quilting, but it is beautiful and glad that you are getting it done!!!

tlrnhi 07-19-2009 03:49 PM

That's really pretty!
I don't know about any other quilting on it. I like it the way it is.

Esqmommy 07-19-2009 05:09 PM

Ooooh la la...tres chic! Very pretty.

huggyface 07-19-2009 06:30 PM

I love the colors and if it were me I would do stitch in the ditch the colors and stars are the focal point, the quilting is secondary in this quilt, your eyes are drawn to the quilt by the colors,it needs nothing else, beautiful.

Very nice. I like how the little nine patches go out towards the border.

cutebuns 07-19-2009 07:12 PM

I love the quilt, what ever you decide it will look great.

Your quilt is very interesting to look at.
It will be interesting to see how you finally decide to quilt it ...
does your machine have the ability to do darning? That is the technique used for free motion quilting ... a walking foot for your machine would be determined by whether it is a high or low shank or slant shank ...

gaigai 07-19-2009 09:26 PM

It's really really pretty! Good job!

Your quilt is lovely. The only thing I can suggest is that you do some kind of chain or wavy pattern in the plain borders. It is always nice to have a curved element in such a geometric quilt. I usually take the quilt out of the frame, lay the quilt on a large flat surface like my ping pong table and do the last borders that way. A simple chain design goes very quickly. It will take you longer to mark it than do.

pocoellie 07-20-2009 03:21 AM

Beautiful job!!

quilterella 07-20-2009 03:46 AM

Colour choice is absolutely gorgeous. Stitch-in-the-ditch for the stars is perfect, but, for the borders, a small crosshatch or close diagonal would be awesosome. If you mark it using one of the star points as reference, a diagonal line is very enchancing without taking away from your stars and gives you that old world flavour.

Gorgeous quilt........I love it :D

reneebobby 07-20-2009 05:54 AM

Very pretty I like it just like that.

dunster 07-20-2009 06:18 AM

That is a beautiful quilt. I would be in a hurry to have it done and displayed in a place of honor. If you have been hand quilting it thus far, I don't think I would add machine stitches. I love both, but not necessarily together. All the suggestions for finishing up the borders are good. Beautiful color selections!

alaskasunshine 07-20-2009 06:27 AM

thay is a beauty...get that puppy finished. LOL who am I to talk, I have so many still waiting to be finished. You are doing a lovely job on it! Thanks for sending the picture!

love your quilt great job !!!! keep up the good work

joeann 07-20-2009 08:49 PM

Your quilt is lovely and I agree more quilting will make you happier. It has been my experience that when you have an older singer or other types also you do not need a walking foot because the feed dogs are strong enough to pull your quilt through without having to have the top feed also. Make up a sample piece and give it a try but I think you will find it will quilt nicely without a walking foot and especiall if you take your foot off and use it bare needle you'll be able to do a great deal of patterns without turning your quilt all over the place. Be sure you keep your fingers out of the way.

Lucky Patsy's 07-20-2009 09:29 PM

It is a lovely piece! I like the blocks and the borders and how you did the corners!

Joeann, are you saying quilt with no foot on at all?

loulou1972 07-20-2009 10:11 PM

sometime you make a quilt that just doesn't GRAB you like some of the others.

Don't give up hope on this one yet it might just turn out to be the best ever quilt you have made.

Simple QID will look excellent sometimes less is more in quilting.

Good luck I love the fabric choice as well scrummy.

I love it! The colors are very nice.

I'll never quilt without a walking foot again! Have you tried a generic one for your machine? Here's a place I've purchased different accessories from in the past. If you email him, maybe he can assist you in finding one that will fit. http://sewingmachine221sale.bizland....ore/index.html

Good luck!

joeann 07-21-2009 07:57 PM

You are doing a real good job. Keep it up and we'll all be buying your patterns on line. JoeAnn

penski 07-21-2009 09:06 PM

i love your quilt would you mind sharing the pattern you used? or where you got the pattern?

Sisters Embroidery 07-21-2009 09:27 PM

I agree w/Huggy face AND Ms Speedy! If you use a very simple chain in the white outside border it would add some contrast and still show off your great color choices.

quiltwoman 07-22-2009 02:48 AM

It's gorgeous.

*QuilterWannabee* 07-22-2009 05:28 AM

chickadee_42us 07-22-2009 09:15 AM

penski 07-22-2009 10:03 AM

Providing the name of the book or magazine, where a pattern came from or providing the name of the pattern would not be copyright infringement. Providing copies of book or magazine pages containing the pattern or it's instructions would be.

chickadee_42us 07-22-2009 04:19 PM

Penski,
It's from Marsha McCloskey's Quick Classic Quilts Four-Patches to Feathered Stars (happens to be quilt on the cover), published by Leisure Arts and Oxmoor House. It says in the inside cover, from the For the Love of Quilting series 1996.
Mine is identical in form to the books, of course my fabric choices are different.
The pattern is the LeMoyne Star directions start on page 126.

Hope this helps you locate it and I appreciate the question.

dizzy 07-22-2009 04:41 PM

dear girl youv'e got a great quilt already you don't have to add fancy quilting to it it's already got enough on it
