The hexagons look wonderful.

Your hex flower looks great to me! :D
I recently started making hex flowers using a method of folding circles ... you can find a tutorial for this method here under "Tuna Can Hexagon Flowers" ... http://www.thequiltandneedle.com/tutorials.asp I find this method much easier than using the papers or plastic templates I tried before ... :D Pat |
That's what they mean!
When you are doing the stitching of the edges to the back of the hexagon? be sure that you do not stitch through to the front of the piece in those places where you are sewing the "joints"/overlaps of the edges ... Is that what you were asking about? It isn't about stitching the pieces together ... it is about the first part of making the hexagon. If you are using a piece of paper, you would have to sew through the paper in order to get to the front of the quilt that they are talking about. |
Beautiful Handwork!!!! :D :D :D

Here's what it looks like.. to me, the edges are more crisp. What do ya'll think? I'd like to know about the Mylar templates though. I went to the site (Thank you) but it doesn't show a close up. How do you stitch them together with the mylar? How would the fabric stick to the mylar? wouldn't it be slippery? EPP Hexagon, 2nd try |
Don't you love these? I started this spring on a small one too just to see if I like it or not. I do. Now I know where all my scraps will go to. I think your second one is crisper too. I never could get the hang of it without the paper in it. I love that you can take them with you and work on them anywhere.

Great job kiddo. Are you making more for a quilt?

the mylar ... hmmm .don't know what mylar is, but I am thinking BALLOONS?
one of the demonstrations I have seen on using like plastic hexagons? there is a hole in the middle of the hexagon, and after you have joined at least six hexes together, you put a crochet hook in the center of the plastic and pop it out of the hexagon ... the lady who developed these plastic ones (could that be the mylar you have seen?) started with plastic from the tops of butter containers ... maybe you need a small/sharper needle for the stitching? and there is another way ... sometimes, I have to take one stitch on the top fold and then got to the underneath fold because my fingers aren't strong enough to pull the needle through four layers of fabric ... don't be too hard on yourself ... I think your first flower looks GREAT! more people will come along to keep giving you advice, encouraging you toward success - - you found a good group here <G> |

I greatly admire any of you that do this. The pics of your work look flawless.
Me? I struggle with accuracy and get very frustrated if things don't line up. This would be a challenge for me when I have years and years of practice behind me. It doesn't help when I'm not patient either. |
