I absolutely LOVE this quilt! I love the different block sizes and how they are working together! I know it's harder than it looks and yes EPP takes time, but soooo worth it! Your project is beautiful and very colorful. I started an EPP GFG with Christmas fabrics that will be a table topper some day. Maybe I will get it finished by next Christmas as I didn't finish it for 2012 and I do think it deserves to be hand quilted since it is all hand piecing. The best part of an EPP project is it is quite portable and so much fun. Thanks for posting yours even as a WIP, now I want to pull mine out and work on it :thumbup:

This is a labour of love! You are so creative with the hexies.

I started doing them for a charm quilt and ended up with 2400 - which- because they are larger than yours, is way too much for a single quilt. So I'm turning them into two quilts. The basting is a favourite pastime and very mindless and therapeutic. I thread around 10 needles and baste until they are all used before threading again. I have convinced myself that this does not break the sewing rythm so often. I use the same threading trick for sewing them together, but find it difficult to drag the quilt around once it reaches a certain size.

Very pretty and you took on a very ambitious project for your first project. I love it, I have been working on table toppers with hexies and find them very relaxing. Non quilters think I am crazy.

It certainly is worthy of honoring it with hand quilting....what a treasure.

I like you idea of threading several needles at a time. I actually do most of my sewing in the car, hour commute-ick but husband does the driving (oh darn-:) ). I sometimes find it hard to keep up with just one needle!

I was getting concerned about dragging around the entire quilt as it was getting larger. I didn't want to loose it, i was afraid of the stress I was putting on it and afraid of it getting dirty. So, my solution is, as I make the flower or diamond shapes or whatever I assemble sections of the quilt top and then sew them to the main part--that is what I work on while watching tv!

Your quilt is just beautiful, and I admire how ambitious you are. I've not made a lot of quilts, and have never done any kind of paper piecing. Can you make this quilt by just plain hand piecing it instead of EPP? I would love to keep one as a WIP to take with me various places, like Dr. waiting rooms, etc. Any help would be so appreciated! Yes, you can certainly do it as hand piecing..without the paper part. I haven't done it. But I read a comment here on the board from someone that said that is their preferred method. I would hate to give direction..I just don't know the answer, but if you start a conversation I am sure someone will know how to help you! The board is great!

This is awesome! I'm currently debating 1/2" or 3/4" hexies for a new project. As for the quilting, not sure how big you are planning to make this but, have you considered framing it instead? There's so much fabric in these little pieces that it makes quilting thread even look large! Keep up the great work!
