High School Graduate's quilt
3 Attachment(s)
Not hard to tell I've been gone for awhile--I'm having to "fiddle" to get things done right!!
Anyway, I finished the binding on this quilt this morning. Graduation is next weekend. Someone posted a helpful hint about how to put your binding on a tube and then hang it around your neck and let it feed from the roller into the sewing machine. I tried it and IT WORKS like a charm. I'm sure I will never have a pile of binding on the floor again! One picture shows it hanging around my neck and the other shows the binding feeding into the sewing machine. |
That's a fabulous quilt and thank you for the picture of how you did your binding. CLEVER!! And seeing it really makes me want to try it now.
Just wonderful, great job and thank you for sharing, just the the pics. Have a Blessed day Ellen

The quilt is fantastic! And...Wow! How clever is THAT! I think many of us who didn't see the first post will now be saving toilet paper rolls and putting them to much better recycle use! lol Thanks for posting.
Great quilt and binding buddy! Isn't it great to not have to wrestle the binding from under your chair and off the floor? I made myself one with a section of pool noodle (with the center hole) instead of the TT roll.
Beautiful quilt, thank you so much for the binding idea!!!!!!!
Your quilt is beautiful!!! I like your tip on the binding hanging around your neck. I usually wind the binding
around my hand into a roll and then I take a can of spray basting (or any can) and set it next to my sewing machine and place the binding around it. It holds it so nice and then if I must get up for any reason, I don't have to worry about the binding going anywhere. |
Love your quilt! Thanks for the pictures. I will use your tip about hanging the binding around my neck. I have the binding on a tube so getting it around my neck should be simple. Thanks!
I learn something every single day that I look at this board. What a keen idea! Plus the quilt is so pretty. Love the colors and the sashings, cornerstones. Just everything.
Beautiful quilt. I had heard about the binding on a roll but, seeing a picture makes it clearer how it works. Thanks for showing us.
I thought I recognized those OSU Cowboys! That's a great quilt! I'm sure the grad will love it! Is s/he headed to Stillwater? I'm so glad the binding trick really does work as I have some things that need binding & I sure get tired of wrestling the loose binding. I'm going to try that! Thanks!
Wow! I can't even imagine sewing the binding on without it wrapping around the chair a few times as well as everything else. That is a great idea. Can't wait to try it. Great quilt too.
beautiful quilt!!!!!
Wow! that is a neat idea. Can we see your quilts in the background?
Beautiful quilt and what a neat thing with the binding. I'm gonna try that. Thanks
Beautiful quilt! Love the pattern and color combination, great job! Nice pictures, thanks for sharing.
Beautiful quilt and the binding idea is fantastic!
I absolutely LOVE the binding tube idea! I usually coil it up and pin it and slowly uncoil it as I pin it to the quilt. It looks as though I would be able to eliminate the uncoiling and pinning steps by using the tube idea. Thanks for the great idea. BTW - I love your quilt and am happy for you that you finished it in time for the graduation! Thanks for sharing.
That is cool. Love the quilt too
What a bright beautiful quilt! The binding idea is also great.
Nice quilt and great idea for the binding.
Nice quilt I'm sure the graduate will love it. I use a similar trick for binding my quilts except I use a large spool from thread that I wind my binding on and then put a long piece of jute or twine and hang it around my neck same procedure otherwise as you.
what a terriffic job on your lovely quilt
BEAUTIFUL quilt and a great idea for the binding!!!!

I use the TT roll, but I hadn't thought about making a hanger to put around my neck though. I've got to try this! Beautiful quilt you did, the grad's going to love it!
Gorgeous quilt! Great way to do binding!
What beautiful quilt! Love the colors and the design. This is the first time I've heard about the binding on a roll around your neck. Never too old to learn. Will try it with my next quilt. Thanks sew much!
I love the colors you used in your quilt.
I think I am the one who posted about the toilet paper tube for the binding. I do it all the time and it works great.
I got the idea from a tool that they sell which is only a piece of wood with strings from both ends. This is cheaper since we all have empty tubes. Your quilt looks great. |
Great job and beautiful quilt. Thanks for sharing.
Love, love, love your quilt. So pretty & I love the pics showing the binding feeding off the tube. I must try that. What a great idea. Tks for sharing.
great quilt! great binding idea!
Aren't you a clever one! I would never have thought about using an empty roll like that. I am sure the graduate will adore your quilt.
Love you quilt colors.
You might have to make a patten for your binding idea,I see many willing to try !! |
