Hill and Valley Log Cabin
3 Attachment(s)
Every year my MIL and I make 2 quilts together. This year's "challenge" quilt was a twist on an old standard. The patches are 8 inches square, with the bottom quadrant removed and a 4" log cabin in it's place. To further complicate matters, the bottom quadrant of the 4 inch patch is removed and a 2" log cabin is in there. I sewed 120 2.5" patches, each with 11 pieces in it. I actually enjoyed the process, and because the patches were so tiny, they came together quickly. We live in an area where hand-quilting rules, so this quilt follows that standard, according to my MIL's preferences. Thanks for looking!

Incredible quilt and quilting!!
Sew pretty and hand quilted too! I think I would enter that in the pieced, hand quilted category fair competition!
Beautiful, love the colors.

Stunning Quilt!!!!!!
that's an awesome quilt... and, of course, my fav color is green... so that hits closer to home :)
Beautiful piecing, pattern, colors, quilting! Love it. Name of pattern please?
I got the pattern from a book from Robert DeCarli called Hill and Valley Log Cabins. Each quilt he named according to its color scheme and layout. So the name of the quilt isn't a pattern as much as an actual name. Hill and Valley will get you farther.

OMG I can't believe the size of those inner strips! Gorgeous!
Stunning quilt!! The pattern and color selection make it look like each piece of purple is bordered in green lace.
I must look this pattern up. One of the prettiest log cabin settings I've ever seen. |
Love the Colors
Great quilt, but those small pieces are amazing!!! Good job.
Wonderful quilt and quilting. I really like the colors.
Love your quilt. I have the book and am working on another pattern in the book. Hope to post a pic if I ever get it finished. Lol

Amazing quilt
I love log cabins in any form. Your curved one is quite lovely; the green and purple are particularly appealing!
Oh my Gosh!! that is incredible!! Wow!
That is beautiful! I can see that it might have been a challenge when it came to putting the blocks together. So nice that you and your MIL can share something you both love.
Stunning!!!!!!!
Very pretty and I like it.
Fabulous!!!!!!!!
That is one of the most interesting Log Cabins I have ever seen and just downright gorgeous. Another one for the bucket list. That darn bucket list is getting longer every day. lol Just wanted to say, I think you are so lucky to have a MIL that shares your passion for quilting. I piece tops together with a friend. It is so much more fun, than always working by myself and it keeps me focused so I get twice as much sewing done when we do it together.
That is spectacular!
I love it! It's great that you have a useful relationship with your MIL
lovely log cabin! they are so my fav!!
Stunning quilt! You and your mother-in-law are real artists. Was it difficult to hand quilt through the batiks, especially with all those seams?

in regards to the difficulty of quilting, it was a challenge for the lady who hand quilted it. She had a number of seam allowances to go through, especially if the design forced her to go through the smallest patches. Her fingers were sore till she finished the job.

Stunning. Love the colors you used and those centers are so small. Too small for my shaky hands but love the layout you used. WOW!!!!
This is outstanding. I love it.
NICELY DONE.
This is a pattern I have not seen - nor have I seen one where the smaller pieces formed the center. I love purple and green together too! |
Beautiful. You are the Master. BrendaK
