I went Garage saleing yesterday with DDIL while I was in Ohio and hit the mother load of all time. They had hundreds of sample books of fabric, I could only bring a couple home with me, will get the rest next month I got about 20 books. And the best part is they were free!! The lady had an interior designing shop and these were the discontinued samples. Lots of types of fabrics. I also picked out several from my Granddaughter. They will make great Bow tucks bags in a patchwork style!! I am in 7th heaven!!

Gosh, I wish I would hit the motherload somewhere!

hazeljane 06-12-2010 07:23 AM

I used to work for an interior design firm. You can make simple throw quilts from most of those fabrics, and wash them. I make quilts out of home dec samples for my den, because they can be washed a million times and the dogs can't destroy them. I trim all the ones I want to a uniform size and line 'em up.

Great find!

Up North 06-12-2010 07:42 AM

I keep looking through them and see so many possibilities. Yes, most of them are 100 % cotton and the young boy about 12 was quite a salesman telling me I could make bags, pillows, quilts, toys etc. It was a fun garage sale. I got some with cool textures for baby things.

CarrieAnne 06-12-2010 07:48 AM

Aw, thats AWESOME! And just the BEST price, too!

dglvr 06-12-2010 07:58 AM

Wow that really cool. I love yard sales. Specially ones that end up so well. Whatcha gonna make?

Up North 06-12-2010 08:07 AM

I am going to TRY to hold off till I get the rest and then put like colors together and make some patchwork type bow tucks bags. Also with some of the textures I want to make some baby toys and small texture blankets about 12X12 or so just so little ones can be touchy feely, These I will donate to some place that works with babies, Maybe WIC.

What I got is already at my son's house. I wish I had a pickup I would have taken it all and shared!!! But I did get the bigger books so the pieces are a good size.

quilting memaw 06-12-2010 08:51 AM

if you go into a furniture store where they have decorating books with fabric swatches, they clear them out a couple times a year. Ask them to call you and they will give them to you. Also if you go to a recovering business, they may give you all the odds and ends. We are talking big pieces here Ladies! Big bags full! What ever you don't use you donate to the humane shelter for the dogs and cats.

Pam 06-12-2010 10:18 AM

YAY!!! How fun it that?

A few months ago I was given a couple of sample books, but didn't know what to do with them. I ended up throwing them away. Now I wish I kept them for purses.
