Just wanted to post this picture of the quilt top I made for my grandson. Almost 2 years ago, I snapped a picture of him as he was walking away to board his plane. Every since then I had been looking for an idea to use that picture on a quilt. (can you see the small picture of him on the right hand side of the quilt) One day Sandygirl, here on the board, posted a picture of a quilt which was exactly what I had in mind. Many, many thank yous to Sandygirl. She directed me as to where I could purchase the pattern and fabrics. I took my snapshot to FedX and had it enlarged to 43 inches in height, cut out my pattern of my grandson and made the quilt. It is not yet quilted; but hopefully it will be by the time he arrives home from his deployment.

Outstanding top! I like how it looks like he is flashing the peace sign with his left arm. Cool placement of the background fabric to get that effect.

Beautiful quilt. Many thanks to your grandson and many other men and women who fight for freedom in our wonderful country. I remember the feeling when my son got on that plane to go to the Persian Gulf to fight for our country. Thanks for sharing.

Terrific quilt and so special with your grandson in it! Actually it brings tears to my eyes - my DH walked away from me exactly like that for 13 months tour of duty in Korea on the DMZ and we were expecting our first child. That child is now 46.

sewbizgirl 03-29-2016 03:57 PM

That is an awesome, striking quilt... and how cool that you put his picture silhouette on it. Quite fitting for a hero!
