hot crossed nine patch blocks

1 Attachment(s)
Is anyone else making these blocks? They are so much fun. I tried to post a link to the tutorial, didn't have any success. If you'd like to make some of these, just google "hot crossed nine patch tutorial" you'll see sophie junction and block lotto. Both have a tutorial. I'm going to make a quilt from these blocks for a grandson's graduation next year. He's a plaid flannel shirt kind of guy. I figure I'll need at least 50 of these blocks, so I've got to keep going.

That will be a great quilt for a guy. Be sure to show us again when it's finished. Peggy

I was looking for a pattern to use for a "manly" quilt and yours fits the bill perfectly! I like your blocks alot.
Thanks for the link MarjaMT.

I agree. There is always someone wanting a "manly" quilt pattern. This looks like something that will come in handy for those folks. Thanks for sharing it with us. I've bookmarked it for myself.

redquilter 05-31-2012 04:52 PM

That's a great start to what's going to be a fantastic quilt. It's very manly looking and the blocks are really neat. Thanks for sharing your picture and the tuturial.

What a great pattern! A year ago, my brother passed quickly from an advanced form of cancer an my sister-in-law was unable to part with his jeans and flannel shirts. I offered to make a couple of lap quilts from them for her and her two daughters if she sent them to me. Well, I now have them and have been pondering about patterns. Thanks for the inspiration. Please share your finished project with us.

Same here. I make quilts for QOV & quite frankly, guys patterns are hard to come by. This is perfect! Plus it's a great block to boot! It would be cute done for kids, too! Thanks for the link! And thanks for sharing your blocks with us. Please post again as this neat quilt of yours is birthed!

Wow, I don't think I have ever seen this one. It looks like it can be a fun scrap quilt as well. Thanks for sharing.

kateyb 06-01-2012 09:14 AM

I like the plaids. I admire the plaid quilts. I'm not so good at them.

BizzieLizzie 06-01-2012 09:16 AM

That is such a gorgeous pattern. Love it!

Thank you for posting the tute. I love what you are doing.

patsynel 06-01-2012 04:17 PM

I like your quilt blocks. I wanted to make my BIL a throw quilt but could not decide on a pattern. You just made my decision for me. Thanks.

debcavan 06-01-2012 06:46 PM

That is a cool block. I have trouble finding things that will go for either a man or a woman. This would work well.

audsgirl 06-01-2012 10:23 PM

That's a really neat block. Thanks for the heads-up.

tesspug 06-01-2012 10:37 PM

Wouldn't those blocks make cute Christmas present blocks? Add a piece to the top and applique on a bow.

JoyjoyMarie 06-02-2012 12:49 AM

Love this block - been trying to think of ways to use plaid and shirting material, and this really fits the bill. Can't wait to see your finished project.

Blinkokr 06-02-2012 03:52 AM

ItsJustMe 06-02-2012 09:20 AM

Love any design of 9-patch, and this one is beautiful. From what I see, this will be a great "guy" quilt. Thanks sew much for the link.

QandE2010 06-02-2012 11:57 AM

Thanks for showing this neat pattern as well as the tute. I have bookmarked it for my next "guy" quilt.

I agree that this is a GREAT pattern to make a memory quilt from men's shirts. I'm working on some now. Thanks so much for sharing this.

trolleystation 06-02-2012 03:36 PM

I, too, saw these on Block Lotto. Yours are wonderful. Just right for a manly quilt.

Latrinka 06-02-2012 06:14 PM

They are cute, and look like they'd be fun to make!

Karen G 06-03-2012 08:11 AM

The blocks are great, would look good with another narrow sashing between blocks.

emlee51 06-03-2012 08:16 AM

Same here...great manly pattern...thanks for the link...it's bookmarked!

GwenH 06-03-2012 08:40 AM

Beautiful!! Will check out that tut for sure, thanks... I look forward to seeing the completed quilt also.

Wunder-Mar 06-03-2012 11:00 AM

Haven't seen these blocks before, but your plaid version is terrific! These have to be a "potato chip block" (you can't make just one). This would be a great stash-busting block - I have several bundles of 6FQs from waaaay too long ago that this block would lend itselt to. THANKS for posting this block and be sure to post a photo of the finished quilt!

fred singer 06-03-2012 11:02 AM

I haven't tried it yet but it sure looks like fun and it could make an interesting quilt

jtquilts 06-03-2012 11:31 AM

I think this is the first I have seen of this pattern. I love them! While they are cute as a button in the plaid, couldn't they be made of any print? Your quilt will be perfect, look forward to seeing it again!

javin22 06-03-2012 11:58 AM

thanks for sharing I bookmarked it to give it a try.
