Could you post the site where you found the pattern? That would make a quick and easy Christmas gift.

I don't believe you can use Insulbrite in the microwave, but it certainly would insulate a hot dish on the table. I think I'd probably find some way to secure the "wings". They just seem to me that they might be in the way.....other than that, it's a nice idea.

Love these they're great for potlucks- when I use potholders I very often don't see them again so these just stay with the casserole dish or pan and go home with me.

very nice, thank you for sharing

Didn't have a pattern. Just cut 2 pieces of fabric 14 inches and two pieces of batting 14 inches. Sewed an X through one piece of material and one piece of batting (did both). Put right sides together to sew, leaving about a 3 inch opening to birth it. Sewed all around outside about 1/8 inch (closed opening). Measure 2 inches in for the corner tabs. Very quick and simple. I will use Insulbrite next time. I will NOT be using in microwave. |

Quiltin-nannie is not using this in the microwave, but as a potholder for a hot dish after it comes out of the oven. Unless I misunderstood the original post? I probably did misunderstand.
I have heard too many stories of fabric items igniting in the microwave to even consider making anything fabric to go in a microwave. If the item is used on a table after the item is baked or microwaved, Insulbrite would work fine and protect the surface it's placed on. Personally, I would not put anything fabric in a microwave. No matter what anyone else said. |
Very nice. Lovely fabric

Thanks, quiltin-nannie. I just needed the dimensions. It looks like you used an 8" square dish. Is that correct?

You really don't want to use anything in the microwave unless it's microwave safe. I don't even use the "Steam n Bag" veggies in the microwave. I empty them into a microwave safe dish. They're going to end up there anyway.

Good to know I understood correctly. Some days I wonder about myself! Glad to hear these are not going in the microwave. It's a nifty idea.
