Here are some of my hotpads. I listed under each one the "Block" that was used to make it.

Thanks Sulabug! I usually like each one but sometimes one comes out less than I thought it would. I have to like the design or I can't work on it.

amma 07-27-2009 11:55 PM

They are all beautiful!!! Beautifully pieced :D :D :D

cutebuns 07-28-2009 12:36 AM

Those are great Rhonda, it is on my list of things to do, honest it is!

Bevanger 07-28-2009 04:12 AM

OOOOOOOOOOOOO those are GORGEOUS :D

Iluv2quilt 07-28-2009 04:28 AM

Those are each a little masterpiece! I love the Drunkard's Path, all of them look perfectly done to me!! Great job on your points! :-) Half square triangles are a lot of fun, so many designs to work with. I'll have to check out your online store again, got a link I can use?

Feathers 07-28-2009 04:32 AM

Your hot pads are so nice...seems a shame to use them removing from the oven a berry pie dripping with syrup! Ya, I do that all the time! Lovely work. Thanks for sharing. I like all of the hotpads but I think I like the Boston Block and the HST 2 the best. Drunkard's path is pretty neat, too. I'm inspired. Guess I'll dig out your 1 1/2" ruler and get busy!

Rhonda 07-28-2009 07:12 AM

Thanks everone. This is my biggest seller at Yoder's Antigues and Gift Shop in Kalona Iowa. They go pretty quickly.
I have been making them for 11 years so I have scads of pics. I only have the last 3 years tho in my comp from when I got this (my first) computer and learned to scan. I thought I would post some every so often. I do have 35 mm camera photos of some I did before PC but I don;t know how well they will scan.

Rhonda 07-28-2009 07:15 AM

One time this missionary lady came into Yoder's and bought all the hotpads and bookmarks and took them to Japan with her for hostess gifts.

Not too long ago another lady came into the store and bought a lot of my stuff and took it home to the Netherlands for gifts for her family and friends.

so I have gone international a couple of times!

People have bought the bookmarks as teacher presents and stocking stuffers.

mytwopals 07-28-2009 07:15 AM

These are very nice, Rhonda. I like the patterns on all of them.

SharonC 07-28-2009 07:34 AM

Your hotpads are great. I love that your points are on the mark and although it was hard to decide...I kept going back to the drunkard's path--it definitely caught my eye. I haven't tried something this small, but you've inspired me (after I finish the 5 WIPs I've got going on :)).

RedGarnet222 07-28-2009 07:46 AM

These are very nice Rhonda! You sure can put out a lot of them at once.

These are not current. Everything I make goes to Yoder's in Kalona. I am just showing some of my favorites from my picture files.

I scan each batch of an order so I have a record of what I took and then I use those pictures to keep an inventory list to work from so I know what she has in stock. Then I fill what ever holes she has.
I do Half Squares / Bostons/ Star Points/ Drunkard's Path/ Kansas Dugouts/ Confusion(similar to crumbs)/Strip work/ Samplers/ and Combination Blocks(four patch) and sometimes just something off the cuff.
I do dresden kaleidoscopes and houses sometimes and whatever I find that looks interesting and is a new idea.

These are my sections that I try to have an assortment of each so there is variety in her stock.

Mamaskeeto 07-28-2009 08:35 AM

Great hot pads! I love all of them.

bearisgray 07-28-2009 08:44 AM

Thanks - there is a project section on my free website that shows the directions for making a hotpad my way.

Wow they're all so different but equally great looking!

motomom 07-28-2009 10:30 AM

These are so awesome! Very inspirational for Christmas Gifts this year!

bearisgray 07-28-2009 11:04 AM

I found the site, but I don't understand this part:

"Find the side opposite to the loop. Fold back the backing fabric to expose the border underneath. Sew a basting seam along the edge. Flip the fold back into place over the border."

I think I'm okay until I get to the picture - and then I don't quite know what/how to to the next step.

When the pot holder is turned right side out, do all the seams end up on the batting side or the backing side?

(I suppose I could go downstairs and just try it - but that would be way too easy :? )

If I understand what you are asking the seams will be on the inside when you turn the hotpad right side out. You won't see any seams.

When you have your sandwich with the back fabric wrong side out on top and the batting underneath with the pieced top face down onto the batting in the middle of the sandwich. Then you sew on the backing from the bottom around til you get back to the bottom. Leave an opening.
When you pull the fabric through the opening and straighten it all out you will have all the stitching on the inside. The back fabric will be on the back right side out and the pieced top will be facing you right side out and the batting will be on the inside.

Does that help?

Have you posted some bookmarks? The hot pads are gorgeous. What do you put inside them?

bearisgray 07-28-2009 11:44 AM

Thank you for responding - I'll just go do one or two and then I'll understand what I'm doing.

The shoelace part for the hanger was informative. Do you give it an extra couple of stitches to make sure it doesn't come out/off?

I backstitch the heck out of them so they won't pull out. Then when you sew over them when you sew around the edge I also make sure I catch the tail that is inside when I sew the finish seam. I backstitch a couple of times over that tail also. You won't see the tail inside but you can feel it.

Thanks I like them. I don't use anything inside. I want them to be as flat as possible.

I posted some pics awhile back. I make these and sell them at a local gift store. So I make dozens of them. I will probably get around to posting some more sometime soon

You can go up to search and type my name in and you can see all the posts I have done. There are hotpads I posted in March or April and check book covers/ totes etc. Patchwork by Rhonda is my business name so I posted some of the first pics under that.

I was rereading this and realized you were asking about the hotpads not the bookmarks. Sorry!!
I use two layers of traditional batting in the hotpads. Sorry I misunderstood or misread it.

They are all so beautiful. They look so dimensional. I can't wait to get my templates and play around with them and create something at least half as good as yours.
