Well they aren't kids. They just finished building a really nice log home. I thought some bright colors would be in order for the log walls. I bought enough to make the pillowcases and the shams too, but, I haven't started those yet. What do you think? (That is an extra quilt under the bed .. It gets cold here at night.)

I love the words in the fabric so perfect for the occation. This was a block of the month I bought all at once as a kit from my local quilt shop. That owner is the best! She was so nice to let me have it all at once.

ps) I tried to fix it, but, the colors are kind of wonky. That is a much nicer teal blue than that.

Ah Red

It's georgous - you really do turn out some beautiful work. You kids will love it - I know I'd be so proud to receive it if I was the recipient.
Don't forget to post pics of the Shams & Pillowcases when you've finished them.

Shemjo 03-18-2009 12:29 PM

Beautiful quilt and nice house too! Where is it? How far away from you are they?

RedGarnet222 03-18-2009 12:50 PM

It is in a city called kila, montana. Not too far from Glacier.

They are thirteen hours from me. I wish I could get up there to see them for a visit and take this in person. I think maybe I will have to soon. I will check on a flight. I am not that adventurous anymore to drive it by myself. Hubby is a workaholic and won't take any time off.

Anyone heard of McKenna Ryan, the art quilt designer? She lives very near them. I would love to visit her shop. I know she has a site on line, does she have a physical shop?

p.s. LOVE the log home...we applied and had plans drawn up to import a Canadian Log home, my DH even went out to Newfoundland to see where they are made, but unfortunately Spanish local council wouldn't allow wooden structure as a permanent build boo hoo!! I so wanted to live in a log home, please post more pictures of it as they progress :D

OK, I give -- why no wooden structures for homes???

Celeste 03-18-2009 03:07 PM

The quilt will really brighten up that beautiful home!

Moonpi 03-18-2009 03:45 PM

Love it! I went through Hurricane Charlie in a log cabin, and it was the only home left standing. They are the best!

I wonder how long before they will be asking for log cabin patterned quilts to go with that beauty.

barnbum 03-18-2009 04:16 PM

That is stunning!! I love looking at it!!

RedGarnet222 03-18-2009 04:44 PM

Oh thanks so much everyone! I have only once stopped in my tracks over a hanging quilt top in a quilt store and this was it. When I saw the fabric had all those wonderful words on it, I knew exactly who I would make it for and give it to. So perfect for the house warming gift.

No ruth there is no hand applique on the quilt. There is lots of fussy cut blocks and the five large all differently pieced basket blocks. Lots of bias edges in these blocks I had to be real careful with my pressing! I love the unusual setting. I wish I could have hung it up for you to see, it has lots of secondary patterns going on.

Thanks so much for enjoying the quilt. I am happy with it. Now just to get it quilted and sent.

The house is finished now. That was the old pics they sent me. I can't find the new finished ones.
