I love it - if'n you don't want it - send it my way (LOL). Everything takes time and I feel that way every time I finish quilting a quilt - but others seem to love em. Give yourself a break - looks good.

Katts 14 07-20-2011 10:37 AM

Don't be so hard on yourself, just put some pretty bowls on top of it, I think it's pretty.

quilt gramma 07-20-2011 10:40 AM

Your table runner is stunning nice job on it all.

Anael 07-20-2011 10:45 AM

From where I'm sitting your table runner looks great! Like said before I like using varigated thread too. I never used a contrasting thread so I admire your courage!

vivoaks 07-20-2011 11:16 AM

We all need practice to get better - having said that, I think your table runner is beautiful. Yes, the FMQ could be better, but it will be - with a bit more practice. Nobody is perfect the first time they try something! Don't be so hard on yourself!!!

Ditto on that,be kinder to yourself.

Amythyst02 07-20-2011 11:21 AM

Well I honestly think its beautiful, and if you don't like it, well send it to me!! I will use it.

butterflies5518 07-20-2011 11:33 AM

this is nice, thinking a ton of them would make Christmas gifts.

clhornak 07-20-2011 12:01 PM

It sure looks good to me. I think you are your own worst critic. Be proud of your work, it deserves it!

rivka 07-20-2011 12:04 PM

I think you're being way too hard on yourself -- it looks fine to me!

janjer 07-20-2011 12:57 PM

OK, I read the comments. I am the only one who is wondering -- what is the "birthing method"? Just writing it makes a little pain.
I like your table runner. My stash and scraps never seem to coordinate like that.

wolflady 07-20-2011 01:07 PM

I think you did a great job. Don't be so hard on yourself.

Birthing method is when you place the right sides of the back and front together (batting on top or bottom). Then sew all round the edges, except for a couple of inches. Then turn the "quilt" right side out, poking out the edges. Hand stitch the little opening closed.

There are many other links about this if you do a search. Maybe they can explain it better.

desertrose 07-20-2011 01:28 PM

Personally I don't see any of the things you're beating yourself up over. Your FMQ reallly isn't that awful, perhaps a little wobbly but you're just beginning and it takes practice for the lines to free moe smoothly. We drive our selves crazy expecting perfection the first time we try anything new. :D :D :D

janjer 07-20-2011 02:24 PM

Thanks, your explanation is just fine. I've done that method but I don't think I ever heard it called that.

The first time I did was part of a sewing class and the teacher had us press the seam open before we turned it. She said pressing made the seam lay together better after it was turned. Sometimes I press and sometimes not, and sometimes pressing helps and sometimes not.

I still like your table runner. I think you did nice work.

bbeyes 07-20-2011 04:24 PM

What is birthing method instead of binding? Not familiar with some Q terms.

Beffy_Boo 07-20-2011 05:32 PM

Ummm...free motion quilting is NOT EASY and yours looks perfectly fine. It is a lovely piece and a learning experience. Don't be so hard on yourself.

pstrwife 07-20-2011 06:17 PM

I think it's beautiful. Don't be so hard on yourself.

Quiltylady 07-20-2011 06:29 PM

I think you did a great job. We only get better as time goes on. It looks good to me.

Shirlrh 07-20-2011 06:36 PM

I think it is very pretty. Very pretty fabrics also.

I agree....

FERSID 07-20-2011 07:00 PM

I don't see any problems - it's artistic flow.

I don't believe quilting needs to be absolutely perfect, I think if all of it was, all of the time, it would become boring.

Give your self a pat on the back and say well done!

slk350 07-20-2011 08:24 PM

I think it looks great. I TRIED FMQ last week...ha, what a joke. After about 15 minutes I gave up, don't know if I'll ever get it right.

arizonagirl 07-20-2011 08:33 PM

I like it. I think you did a good job on it. If you want I'll adopted it...lol

ibeesewin 07-20-2011 08:35 PM

I think these are nice. Like everyone has said, don't be so hard on yourself.

hpylady 07-20-2011 09:16 PM

I didn't see any difference. I think it is very pretty. I would be proud of it. Your free motion is really good. It doesn't have to be perfect. It is very hard to keep the lines going straight as you want them to go and hard to keep the curves steady all the time. I think you did a very good job.

auntmarie 07-21-2011 05:47 AM

Wish mine turned out so well!!!!!!!!!!!

sewdarnbusy 07-21-2011 05:50 AM

Don't be discouraged.... Practice, practice & do it again.

redpurselady 07-21-2011 06:03 AM

I think it's beautiful! Great job on the quilting!

sherry mcd 07-21-2011 11:07 AM

Please explain what "birthing method" is. Thank you.

Jammin' Jane 07-21-2011 11:29 AM

It looks wonderful!
Love the pattern, love the color combination!
You are being way too hard on yourself!!

DianneK 07-21-2011 02:39 PM

give yourself a break!! Very nice

grannie cheechee 07-22-2011 05:21 PM

I don't see anything wrong.

luckylindy333 07-22-2011 05:27 PM

I think it is beautiful!

Winkee 07-22-2011 07:11 PM

I love your pattern and colors. I don't think your FM is bad at all. I love table runners.

sewellie 07-22-2011 07:39 PM

[quote=dallen4350]How can I make so many mistakes with one small table runner?

1) Making a back that somehow didn't exactly match the front, so when I FMQ the strips on the front, it didn't stay in the corresponding strips on the back. I used the same ruler, same machine, etc. So why was it different?
2) Using birthing method instead of using binding. So you can see a little of the back on the front and vice versa.
3) Bad FMQ. Probably should have just tried to stipple, which doesn't show when you wobble as much.

oh, man, I think it is awesome! I am so intimidated about FMQ. I admire you for just going for it.

Sew momma 07-22-2011 07:42 PM

I think you did a fine job and the FMQ gives it some character.

georgiat 07-23-2011 06:11 PM

They ar enot mistakes, rather learning opportunities!

Blue's quilting mama 07-23-2011 06:13 PM

You are way too hard on yourself! Use it with pride, it is so pretty!

No matter how carefully you pin and quilt it, there always seems to be some fabric along the edge that doesn't match up. Maybe it's just me but I like binding better.

I think it helps to quilt 1/4 inch or so around the entire edge to keep it in place. Sometimes you can even fudge just a bit.
