And how good are the rider's eyes?
I've asked Gail to make a label, and she asked for a picture, so... This project has more problems in it than every other project I've ever done combined. But with over 2,000 pieces and two days of working on it with a machine that was naughty (forever gone from my life and on to somebody who is willing to "fiddle" with it...), it is what it is. I had to decide - pitch it, start over, or leave it as is - which is what I decided to do. The pattern is "Carolina Christmas" by Bonnie Hunter. I rarely name a quilt beyond something interesting like "Cow for McKinnly." This one is going to be "Yearning for an Old-Fashioned Christmas," like when I was little. Presents were few, but all of my aunts, uncles and cousins gathered for the day. So long ago that my job was always to remove the seeds from the Emperor grapes (no seedless grapes available then) for the fresh fruit salad that was a huge treat during winter. Or maybe the Christmases we had when the girls were little and a stocking full of little trinkets and odds and ends thrilled them. I miss my girls. The lighting isn't great - dh didn't get home until after dark and at 95" x 95", it is hard to hold up! oh my that is just so pretty!
This rider doesn't see the problems. Looks super!
I like it. From the picture, I think it would pass "stand two feet in front of it" scrutiny.
OMG - this is so beautiful!! You did a fantastic job and the colors are so pretty together. Pat yourself on the back!! :)
Beautiful! I have used Bonnie Hunter's Scrappy Sister's Choice and Bargello ideas. I plan on doing more of hers.
No galloping horse needed here! That is a beautiful quilt!
I remember Christmas's like you described, weren't they the best? :D:D:D |
Your quilt is beautiful and joyful!
As amma said, No galloping horse needed here! Nice work!!!
That is a superbly beautiful quilt! Great job!
Any of the problems must all be very well hidden, they certainly don't show. |
Your quilt is beautiful, such pretty colors and I also remember Christmas's like you were talking about, wish we could have those again.
My horse must be traveling very fast cause it looks perfect to me. What a glorious Christmas quilt. I can almost remember the wonderful smells of Christmas Day and going downtown to see the moving Christmas windows full of elves and such. You did it.
Wow, you should be proud of it and proud of sticking through the whole project.
Your quilt is wonderful. I agree with everyone else, where are the mistakes you were talking about? I didn't see any.
I think it is a beautiful quilt with no flaws.
That is a beauty!! Have never done a Bonnie Hunter; but love the scrappy quilts.
It's gorgeous!!!
Aw, thanks folks! DH is one of those "I don't get it" people. He did say it looks like a lot of sewing...
There are scads of lopped off points. And some frighteningly small seams. Not sure how those will hold up over time. In spite of trying, there are many Christmas Star blocks with repeats of the same green right next to each other. So we are going to USE this! No saving it for an heirloom, no keeping it "nice." On the bed after Thanksgiving until New Years for however long it lasts. Kind of freeing, in a way. Thanks again for the kinds comments. Notice I didn't take any pictures that are too close! |

I'm sorry you had so much trouble with it but it turned out beautiful.
Wow, I'm with everyone else that doesn't see the flaws! Very nice job! Reminds me I need to get started on my Christmas quilt if I want it done in time.
Looks terrific!! Beautiful quilt!
It's glorious. You did a wonderful job and it's a great pattern. Beautiful quilt!
No need to worry. It looks great!
Beautiful <---not riding by---->standing still with eyes wide open :)
Well, I am on a Tennessee Walking horse and we don't see anything wrong. Nice colors.
Well, I must be riding by on a very slow horse, and even then I do not see any mistakes. So glad you are going to put it on your bed and use it. Loved your remembrances of Christmas. It was so much nicer then..at least in our minds. Life was simpler. Enjoy snuggling under it on cold winter nights.
my horse went by at a slow trot and saw nothing but Crisp, Clean patchwork; and, beautiful color choices. This quilt is eye-catching. I love it.
Your quilt is beautiful and I think the galloping horse would stop to look at the beauty.
Even a slow horse would find it stunning!!!!!!!!    I absolutely LOVE it!!
You must (should) be very proud of this quilt. It justs begs for a snuggle.
