and she's beeeee-uuu-ti ful!! I've got her sitting in my living room just so I can sit and grin.
Two son's were going through their mother's house, over the last 3.5 yrs since her passing, and slowly putting items on craigslist. They finally decided on the treadle. I jumped!! She was in good condition to start with so I lucked out. Machine head...not so much.
As I'm oooh'ing and ahhhh'ing over it, one of the son's mentions he's keeping one of her other machines. Takes me into the original sewing room and pulls out a Rocketeer. I immediately mentioned if he ever decides to sell it, I've got dibs =). Was in pristine condition.

Anyway, back to "Catherine Elizabeth", named after their mother and grandmother.....I'm so very proud!!!!

What did you use to clean her up???

dixiebelle162002 07-10-2011 11:33 AM

wow the woodwork is beautiful!

boysmomoflabs 07-10-2011 11:47 AM

Isn't it beautiful!!! I'm still grinning....so lucky!

I used Howard's Restore Finish, then the Feed & Wax. I do need to say, that isn't easy. The Restore took ALOT of elbow grease, was not easy.

I have another treadle to do yet, so dark you can't see the Tiger pattern. Can't imagine the work that's going to be required to lighten it back up.

Just doing this one, took 8.5 hrs

intoquilting 07-10-2011 11:52 AM

I am impressed that you got it done in 8.5 hours. I never finish a restoring project because it takes so long.

4girlsmimi 07-10-2011 11:52 AM

beautiful!

I have one just like this one that has a very nice red eye in it. I can't seem to get it shineing like yours it has many layers of gunk. I didn't want to strip it but it is looking like I may have to :(
You did an outstanding job! I wish I could find the howards here but have had no luck.

Do you have a Kroger out there? Kroger now owns a chain here that carries everything, sorta like Walmart but higher end.

I'm thinking I'll have to strip the other one but worried about the laminate lifting.

On the machine's themselves, if you don't have a lot of decals, I've found Turtle Wax brand Bug and Tar remover has worked wonderfully! Machine doesn't need the waxing afterward either. I used it on a 201 & 301a.

Did you clean up the woodwork? What did you use. It looks brand new!

boysmomoflabs 07-10-2011 01:38 PM

Grinster, look at the top post on this page and thank you for the compliment on my hard work!

Jingle 07-10-2011 02:13 PM

Beautiful cabinet, I would display it too. Just no room here. Glad you found this beauty.

earthwalker 07-10-2011 09:57 PM

Nice work, beautiful cabinet.

purrfectquilts 07-11-2011 03:48 AM

Very lovely and makes you want to just run your hands over it. We have a treadle and I would like nothing more than to see it restored and in great working order.

Yooper32 07-11-2011 04:14 AM

You lucky person, you. What a gorgeous cabinet. Whatever you had to do, it was worth it and then some.

stitches_ia 07-11-2011 04:58 AM

I have the same machine but haven't refinished it yet. I just love it with all the decorative embellishment on it. I can't get mine to sew without thread breaking, so I wonder if I'm threading correctly. Have you tried sewing on yours? You did a great job on the finish!!!

Lady Jane 07-11-2011 05:44 AM

Looks like it was well taken care of.

mighty 07-11-2011 06:26 AM

I have one just like her and I just love it. Enjoy!!

Mariposa 07-11-2011 06:27 AM

Congrats, and it is a beauty!

jellybeans 07-11-2011 07:02 AM

I DO BELIEVE I'D KILL FOR A MACHINE LIKE THAT!!! LOL

Pinklady 07-11-2011 07:11 AM

I just got a sewing machine that was my grandmothers just like that cabinet. My cabinet is in very bad shape, my sister had it first and left it in a garage for years. I am working on the machine now. I only wish I can get my cabinet to look half as good as yours.

JudieRQuilting 07-11-2011 07:11 AM

That is a gorgeous cabinet. No wonder you sit and grin when you see it.

Baloonatic 07-11-2011 08:22 AM

Simply gorgeous! They're not made like THAT any more!!

dphelps 07-11-2011 08:42 AM
