I tried machine quilting, mine looks messy and puckered. I used to think hand quilting took too long until I checked the prices of longarm quilters. Wow. I think now I'm either going to learn to hand quilt or buy a home type longarm quilting setup. Not sure about that cause I don't know how to use one. Like everything else, the price of sewing has gone up so much it almost isn't worth it any more. So sad.

I do both but I prefer hand quilting. I love the old fashion look.

I love had quilting because the quilt feels softer to me when finished.

A few yrs ago I saw a guest on Simply Quilts talk about how she finishes her quilts. She said she breaks them down in to 3 categories. She hand quilts the really special ones that she hopes will stay in the family for yrs to come. She machine quilts the smaller ones and then for the ones that she knows will get a lot of use (and/or abuse) she pays to have them longarm quilted. I now use the same guidelines when I'm deciding on which method to use. It does seem that more people are getting back in to hand quilting which I think is absolutely wonderful. Everything in life does not need to be done "yesterday". Enjoy the journey of making the quilt and you will find that you learn patience and relaxation. As to the hand piecing, it will hold up just as well so long as you take smaller stitches and put tiny knots at the end of the threads.

I have never done anything else but hand quilt. To me it's a matter of personalizing the project, and one of economy. I have way more time (I hope) than money and people really marvel at the fact I have done "that" by hand.

I do both, Hand quilting is a forever project! I prefer more instant gratification!
