I finally finished this quilt I made from a $5.00 quilt class. But how do you quilt something like this?

I would do outline quilting, it is very pretty!

I don't know, but it sure is nice!

I would also outline quilt.

Gee that's pretty.
I'd outline one block at a time.

I think it would be fun to quilt this one because you can do all kinds of different free motion motifs - stars, flowers, bees, leaves, etc. - and it will all go together because there are so many different things in the sampler. I would also do some outline quilting, maybe some echo quilting, but go crazy with experimentation. It is really cute!

I was thinking the same as dunster - it would make a fabulous playground for all kinds of free motion doodling!

I think I would outline also

My dumb question--what is the difference between outline quilting and echo quilting??

Shemjo 07-25-2009 08:02 AM

Outline quilting is just quilting around the shape that is there, either in the ditch or a quarter inch away.

Echo quilting is repeating that shape at quarter inch intervals like the ripple when you throw a stone in a still pond. It is not necessary that it is exactly at quarter inch, but I use my quarter inch foot and echo quilt a lot. It is especially easy on straight lines. Keep echoing until you run out of space.

I agree with the above suggestions to outline quilt and then use lots of different techniques to practice many shapes and HAVE FUN!
