About a month ago I posted a picture of some fabric that I needed to finish my Hunter's Star quilt top. I'd been looking for more of the dark blue bali and when I finally accepted the fact that it just wasn't going to happen, I found something else that I think works well and even though it's not as large as I wanted, it's ok and I'm happy with it. Now, how to quilt this? That is the questions! :-)

Joanne-what a beautiful quilt. I too am in the process of making one and have had so much fun with this quilt. I used batiks also and I have to say ours are so similar! Did you frame it in black? I'm watching this post to see what suggestions are posted for quilting. Very curious with the finishing details! You really did a great job!

That is beautiful. I love the fabrics. I've been wanting to do a Hunter's Star and seeing yours I know I do. Sorry I can't help ya with the quilting but whatever you do I know it will be beautiful. Great job.

This is a really hard type of a quilt to quilt plan...I think anyway.

For me...or my personal opinion I think there are two ways to do this....

One would be to play up the lights and darks. I would go through and quilt all the white areas in one design. Then I would go through and quilt all the dark areas in another design...then I would pick a complimentary border design.

The second option would be an all over type of design to soften the points. I am interested to see what others think.

Looks great. Black (or dark) narrow border is perfect.

A customer of mine did her Hunter's Star in batiks with lots of variety. We decided to make the quilting consistent, and use the smaller sections as frames around each block. Hope the picture comes through.....

Beautiful quilt.

This is one of my favorite quilt patterns, and yours is very nice. As for quilting, I had the same question when I recently finished a storm at sea. Hadn't even thought about how I would quilt it until reaching that point! What I ended up doing was a google search for images of that quilt, and it came up with a ton of peoples storm at seas. Not only was it fun looking at everyone elses color combinations, but I got some ideas of how to quilt my own!
I made a hunters star baby quilt about 7 years ago, and for the life of me I can't remember how I quilted it!!!

I like how you used the darker color (looks like black) for the inside border. I recently started doing that with my quilts and the results is amazing.

saf 06-20-2011 04:49 AM

beautiful. thanks for sharing

Joanne9of12 06-20-2011 04:50 AM

The first border (frame) is a very dark blue batik with little lighter blue and yellowish dots on it. It sure does read black though, doesn't it?

debcavan 06-20-2011 04:58 AM

It is beautiful. The fabrics are wonderful

Your avatar is gorgeous, just gorgeous

I just bought that pattern in Paducah this year. Now, what did I do with it? I like blue and white for this, but that batik is really pretty. Decisions, decisions!!!

What a beautiful quilt! I like the idea of an over all pattern to soften the points and to give a contrast. Please make sure to show us a picture when you are done with the quilting.

labug 06-20-2011 08:06 AM

Beautiful quilt!

sue z q 06-20-2011 08:08 AM

Very pretty. Just printed this pattern (Quilters Cache) after seeing it in black, white and bright this morning on the board. Yes, we want to see a picture after it is quilted.
