I WAS going to do this on point. I did not realize that pieces that should go near the edge had to be cut slightly larger (until I had already cut mine) so I just made it straight up.

For some reason these two colors do not photograph very well, so I am including what the fabrics actually look like.

kathy 02-24-2010 07:23 AM

well "chicken" I sure like it, and I reeeely like the fabrics.

Jingle 02-24-2010 07:31 AM

I looks great to me !!! Colors are pretty.

redrummy 02-24-2010 07:31 AM

Awesome job, fabrics are great, and really make the pattern stand out. I like it this way!

You didn't chicken out...you used your creativity. Your quilt is beautiful.

I agree, isn't this what quilting is about, being creative and unique? Great job I can't wait to see the finished quilt.

sandpat 02-24-2010 07:42 AM

Cluck...cluck...I LOVE it!

charismah 02-24-2010 07:47 AM

very nice!

elfvinnd 02-24-2010 07:52 AM

I agree. It turned out very nice. Sometimes what we intend to do doesn't work but the end result is even better than our original plan.

Oklahoma Suzie 02-24-2010 07:59 AM

it's beautiful big sis.

BKinCO 02-24-2010 08:01 AM

I love it! I was just thinking that I want to make a quilt with only 2 fabrics....this may be it for me! I think you did a fantastic job!

Ducky 02-24-2010 08:05 AM

Gosh, that's beautiful!!!! What do you mean about the needing to make it bigger on the ends?

paintedquilt 02-24-2010 08:11 AM

Beautiful

RedGarnet222 02-24-2010 08:11 AM

It was really supposed to look like this. I read that the pieces to make it be on point needed to be a bit larger for the corners.

BKinCO 02-24-2010 08:16 AM

I love them both!!! I think yours looks great. Care to share where the pattern came from??? :)

Chele 02-24-2010 08:19 AM

So pretty! The colors are beautiful and your workmanship is top notch!

I found it in a search just using the words -- quilt blocks Hole in the Barn Door. The site is jeannesquilting.com.

cindyg 02-24-2010 09:04 AM

Beautiful quilt even tho it's not on point. The good news is that you learned something. I learned that same lesson - LOL.

jewelps 02-24-2010 11:18 AM

very nice

mpspeedy 02-24-2010 12:32 PM

It turned out to be stunning. Putting it on point would use fewer barndoor blocks but is a lot tricker to piece. Nice job.

knlsmith 02-24-2010 02:48 PM

super nice colors and great quilt

blahel 02-24-2010 03:55 PM

i think it looks wonderful!

ditto! I'm all for that!!

:D :D It turned out beautiful!! Love the end result!!

renee765 02-24-2010 06:12 PM

Actually, you made it just fine. You just need to hang it 'on point' instead of straight, that's all!

Karenn 02-25-2010 11:37 AM

Beautiful job and excellent choice of colors! I love it.

Quilter7x 02-25-2010 11:38 AM

I like your quilt better than the picture. :D

amma 02-25-2010 11:44 AM

I agree. Chickening out would have been throwing the blocks in a box and forgetting about them. You did a great job and I love those fabrics!

Bobbinwinder 02-25-2010 03:19 PM

Lovely quilt! Those setting blocks are a bit trickier than we'd like for them to be...well, it won't happen to you again...and you do have a lovely quilt and all's well that ends well! Good for you for seeing it through to completion!

jljack 02-25-2010 03:29 PM

I don't understand the bit about the edge pieces needing to be larger. I never heard that, and I have made several quilts on point, and never had that issue. Was it specified in the pattern?
Your quilt did turn out really beautiful, without being on point. I like the colors a lot!!

dkabasketlady 02-25-2010 08:16 PM

Love the colors and the quilt is awesome!!!

dsj 02-25-2010 09:17 PM

The churn dash, or hole in the barn door is one of my fave's. The colors are perfect together. Good job!

zz-pd 02-25-2010 09:43 PM

Love the colors and the quilt.

k3n 02-26-2010 01:04 AM

Beautiful! And I prefer it 'straight up' too! It's such a great block and the design shows up better the way you did it. :-D

Pat G 02-26-2010 07:16 AM

I'm so happy you included closeups of the fabrics. That made such a difference in the way I appreciated that gorgeous quilt.

Pat

Kellie G 02-26-2010 08:16 AM

I think your quilt is beautiful. Love the fabric. You did a wonderful job. Love that pattern.

jojo47 02-26-2010 08:59 PM

Great job on the quilt the colors and the pattern! Did you by chance get your fabric from Connecting Threads? The had some similar to what you used.

jdavis 02-27-2010 07:48 AM

Wow! I really, really like the fabric combo! Nice work!

red roses 02-28-2010 07:58 PM

This is great! I really like the color combination. Are you going to hand quilt it?
